According to the People's Council of Bac Kan province, the reorganization and merger with Thai Nguyen province will create a new development space with an area of over 8,300 km² and a population of over 1.6 million people.
The reorganization will involve incorporating the existing administrative boundaries, including natural area and population, to ensure ease of management and development.
After the merger, the new province, with its capital in the current city of Thai Nguyen, will combine the strengths of Bac Kan in ecology, forestry, tourism, and minerals with the industry, education , and urban development of Thai Nguyen.
The reorganization and merger of provinces not only brings socio-economic benefits but also has significant implications for security and defense, especially in building a national defense system, people's security, and a military and security posture.
Regarding the reorganization of commune-level administrative units, the Bac Kan Provincial People's Council approved the policy of reducing the number of communes, wards, and towns from 108 to 37, a reduction of more than 65.7% compared to the current number.
In her directive speech at the session, Ms. Phuong Thi Thanh, Chairwoman of the Bac Kan Provincial People's Council, requested that immediately after the session, the Provincial People's Committee complete and coordinate the completion of documents related to the rearrangement of provincial and commune-level administrative units to submit to the competent authority, ensuring progress according to regulations.
Proactively implement projects and plans for organizational structure and personnel management; manage and handle assets in accordance with regulations.
The province continues to effectively implement tasks and solutions to achieve the economic growth target of over 8%. It proactively reviews projects and resolutely halts those that are not truly necessary, prioritizing funding for projects that directly benefit the people.
Also at this session, the Bac Kan Provincial People's Council passed resolutions on: Regulations on the principles, scope, support levels and use of funds for protecting rice-growing land; and approval and adjustment of investment policies for projects under its authority.
