Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Council passed a resolution to merge provinces and communes.

On the morning of April 23, at the 28th session (special session), the People's Council of Thai Nguyen province, term XIV, 2021-2026, passed the Resolutions on the policy of arranging and merging Bac Kan province and Thai Nguyen province; Resolution on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units of the province; Resolution stipulating funding to support the implementation of teaching and learning Vietnamese for ethnic minority children before entering grade 1.

After reviewing and discussing the reports of the Provincial People's Committee, the delegates of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Council voted to approve the Resolutions on the policy of arranging and merging Bac Kan province and Thai Nguyen province; Resolution on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units of the province; Resolution stipulating funding to support the implementation of teaching and learning Vietnamese for ethnic minority children before entering grade 1 in the province.

The arrangement and merger of Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen provinces, named Thai Nguyen province, helps to create and form a new development space with an area of ​​over ^8,300km2 and a population of over 1.68 million people, combining the industrial-urban -educational and training strengths of Thai Nguyen province with the ecological-forestry-tourism-mineral resources potential of Bac Kan province.

With the arrangement of commune-level administrative units, Thai Nguyen province will reduce from 172 communes, wards and towns to 55 communes and wards (a reduction of 68.02%) compared to the present. Thereby, building larger communes, reducing staff associated with restructuring the team of commune-level officials, promoting local socio-economic development.
