Việt NamViệt Nam07/06/2024

Peanuts have good harvest and good price.

These days are the peak of the spring peanut harvest for farmers in the communes of Hung My, Tan My, Trung Ha, Yen Nguyen, Phuc Thinh (Chiem Hoa); Minh Quang, Phuc Son, Tho Binh (Lam Binh). In the peanut fields, the joy of a good harvest has somewhat alleviated the hardships of people working in the hot sun. To keep up with the production schedule, families are mobilizing maximum human resources to speed up production, some harvest and sell to traders right at the field, others pack peanuts into bags and transport them home to dry in time for the sun.

Comrade Ma Dinh Sac, Chairman of Hung My Commune People's Committee, said that in the spring crop, the whole commune planted 102 hectares of peanuts, mainly L14 and L16 peanuts. Most households in the commune took full advantage of the land along the stream and the single-crop rice fields to grow peanuts. Peanuts were cared for according to the correct technical process, so the yield reached from 33 to 35 quintals/ha. At the same time, the Commune People's Committee also directed farmers to immediately prepare the land after harvesting peanuts to meet the production schedule for the summer-autumn crop.

Farmers in Thanh Long commune (Ham Yen) harvest tomatoes.

From early morning, the family of Mrs. Ma Thi Thuong, Dom village, Hung My commune gathered in the field to harvest peanuts. Mrs. Thuong shared that this year, her family planted 2,000 m2 of peanuts, and has now harvested over 1,000 m2. Thanks to timely pest control measures, the peanuts have grown and developed well, with a good harvest, and an estimated yield of 32 quintals/ha, 2 to 3 quintals/ha higher than previous years. With the current purchase price of fresh peanuts from 12,000 VND to 14,000 VND/kg, this year's peanut crop, her family will earn at least nearly 9 million VND, the economic value of peanuts is twice as high as that of rice.

Realizing that peanuts are an easy-to-grow vegetable crop with good growth and development and stable economic efficiency, currently, in addition to growing peanuts on large areas, many households in Kim Binh, Vinh Quang, Binh Nhan (Chiem Hoa) have applied intercropping of peanuts with many other crops such as corn, banana, gac fruit, etc. to increase land use value and have additional sources of income.

Link to grow safe vegetables

Coming to Loa village, Thanh Long commune (Ham Yen) these days, the green fields of cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash are stretching up to the high trellis and bearing heavy fruits. Ms. Tran Thi Ha, Loa village said that in the last spring crop, her family planted 1,000 m2 of cucumbers in a biosafety direction in association with Minh Tam Cooperative to purchase the products. This crop had favorable weather, combined with good application of science , technology and experience in production, so the cucumbers bore many fruits, with an estimated yield of 1.7 - 2 tons/sao. According to Ms. Ha's experience, cucumbers, like other vegetables, if planted early or planted at a different time than the main crop, always sell for a high price. This year, the price of cucumbers was stable at 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg, so her profit will certainly be higher than last year. Compared to growing corn and rice on the same area, growing cucumbers gives 4 to 5 times higher profits.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Lap, Director of Thanh Long Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, said that currently, with a total area of nearly 26 hectares, all vegetables, tubers and fruits of the Cooperative are grown according to VietGAP standards. On average, each day, the Cooperative supplies the market with more than 2 tons of kohlrabi, tomatoes, squash, Japanese squash, pumpkin, chayote, cabbage, etc. At the same time, the Cooperative is also continuing to promote trade promotion activities, promote safe vegetable products to consumers, select reputable and good quality units and suppliers of seeds and agricultural materials to better meet the needs of safe vegetables, tubers and fruits for the people.

In Dai Phu commune (Son Duong), in vegetable fields, people can be seen everywhere harvesting tomatoes, beans, cucumbers... Mr. La Van Sang, Dong Chua village, Dai Phu commune said that last spring, his family planted 3 sao of corn and 2 sao of beans. Spring vegetables yielded high yields, and customers bought them all as soon as they were harvested, with prices ranging from 12,000 - 20,000 VND/kg. His family's 2 sao of vegetables brought in a profit of more than 10 million VND.

Comrade Tran Hai Tuyen, Head of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, assessed that in the spring crop, the whole province planted 3,274 hectares of peanuts, 1,672 hectares of various vegetables and beans, with an estimated peanut yield of 30 - 33 quintals/ha, 2 - 3 quintals/ha higher than previous years. The new point in spring peanut production of the people is that they have proactively bought nylon to cover the peanuts, with this planting method bringing clear results. Peanuts covered with nylon increase the soil temperature, helping the plant grow quickly in the germination stage; keep the soil moist, creating favorable conditions for the plant to grow in the following stages, limit weeds, and wash away nutrients, so the yield is higher from 30 - 60 kg of fresh peanuts/1,000 m2 compared to the conventional planting method.

Along with focusing on quickly harvesting peanuts and spring vegetables, farmers in the province are also preparing the necessary conditions for crop production such as: land preparation, sowing, field sanitation, with the goal of striving to complete the crop production plan within the set time frame.
