The Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces affirmed that there were no threats, interferences or obstacles in ensuring security and safety for the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

Indonesian Defense Force (TNI) Commander Admiral Yudo Margono announced that the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, was held safely and successfully.

Speaking on May 12 at a security review meeting for the summit, Admiral Margono thanked the security forces for their efforts to make the event a success.

He affirmed that there were no threats, interferences or obstacles in ensuring security and safety for the 42nd ASEAN Summit. He emphasized that 12,000 TNI and National Police (Polri) personnel had made maximum efforts to perform their tasks excellently.

Admiral Margono also appreciated the coordination of various agencies such as the National Cyber ​​and Cryptocurrency Agency (BSSN), the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG); and the support of the government, the people of the area and the West Manggarai regency.

In addition, the active participation of the Indonesian and international media team was also an important factor contributing to the success of the conference.

The media ensured full coverage of the event and supported Indonesia in conveying important messages from the conference as well as images of the country and its local people.

Previously, speaking at a press conference on May 11 after the conclusion of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, President Joko Widodo, the Chair of ASEAN, emphasized: “ASEAN is a family. Therefore, strong relationships and unity among the parties are important factors to move towards the common goal of making ASEAN the center of growth and a region of peace , stability and prosperity.”

Indonesia hopes that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will have strong development to be able to face challenges, be sensitive to constant movements and maintain its central role in the region.

President Widodo said the ASEAN Summit achieved many outstanding results.

Specifically, ASEAN leaders shared the view that the interests of the people are of primary concern, especially the protection of migrant workers and victims of human trafficking.

Regarding the issue of human trafficking, Mr. Widodo called on ASEAN countries to take decisive action to prevent this type of crime.

Also according to the Indonesian leader, regarding enhanced economic cooperation, ASEAN agreed to build an electric car ecosystem and become an important part of the world's supply chain, in which downstream industry is key.

The implementation of local currency transactions and digital payment connections between countries was also agreed to be promoted. This is in line with the goal of ASEAN centrality, making ASEAN stronger and more independent.

In addition, the conference also approved the roadmap to admit Timor Leste as an official member of ASEAN.

Speaking to reporters after attending a press conference announcing the results of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said: “The commitment of ASEAN member states is very strong and clear that we are ready to support Timor Leste to complete the criteria of the roadmap”./.
