The VIII Power Plan approved by the Prime Minister is of special importance, creating a premise for localities across the country, economic groups, and investors to have a basis to develop electricity, opening up new development space for the Vietnamese energy industry in a sustainable, equitable direction, in line with the trend of green economy, circular economy, and low carbon. With the goal of ensuring national energy security, the VIII Power Plan prioritizes the strong development of renewable energy sources for electricity production. This power source will reach a rate of about 30.9 - 39.2% by 2030. The goal is to achieve a renewable energy rate of 47% according to the commitment on a fair energy transition with Vietnam. By 2050, the renewable energy rate is expected to reach 67.5 - 71.5%.
