On October 14, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired an online conference with 21 provinces and cities on the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing .

According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the situation of management and supervision of fishing vessels in localities continues to have positive changes. Licensing, registration and control of fishing vessel activities have been strengthened, contributing to reducing the number of vessels that are not qualified to operate. The system of fishing ports and traceability of aquatic products has been maintained and expanded, effectively serving the work of confirming the origin of exploited products.
The Ministry continues to direct localities to seriously implement measures to combat illegal fishing (IUU), strengthen inspection and supervision of fishing vessel activities, especially the installation and maintenance of connection of voyage monitoring equipment. The authorities closely coordinate with the European Commission (EC) and relevant units to implement recommendations, prepare for inspection teams and work with the EU, towards the goal of removing the "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood.

Quang Ninh province has also promptly issued directives and implemented solutions on effective and sustainable fisheries development, preventing and combating illegal IUU fishing in accordance with local practices and EC recommendations. The shortcomings have been gradually overcome with the rate of registered vessels reaching 100%, the rate of updating fishing vessel information reaching 100%, and the rate of granting fishing licenses reaching 99.8%.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested central ministries and branches to complete the synchronization, unification, and multi-data on seafood exploitation, connecting citizen data with national data; update statistics on qualified and unqualified vessels; issue temporary criteria for recognizing qualified ports; and strengthen sea patrols. Localities should promptly report problems, develop plans to convert offshore fishing to aquaculture, and step up propaganda against illegal IUU fishing.
