This is a series of international events on the development and operation of the core Internet infrastructure - the DNS system, held for the first time in Vietnam, gathering the participation of 200 of the world's leading experts in this field.
The event takes place from September 4-7, 2023 in Da Nang , Vietnam
The IDS Symposium and the DNS-OARC Workshop are major international events specializing in DNS system operation and development, held annually in the Europe/America region and highly appreciated by experts and the technology community around the world.
In 2023, with the trust of ICANN, DNS-OARC, VNNIC as the host (local host), in coordination with ICANN, DNS-OARC will host an international event on DNS in Vietnam, with the goal of bringing research, testing, application of new solutions and technologies on management, operation and security of DNS systems of the world's leading organizations to the Vietnamese community.
The DNS (Domain Name System), born in 1983, is a system that resolves domain names into IP addresses and vice versa. The DNS system is like an Internet phonebook that helps connect Internet devices and services together, helping users access and use Internet services. In other words, the DNS system is the “heart” of the Internet, acting as the core infrastructure, the center for all connections between applications, data and users.
In the smart era, the Internet is shifting from Consumer Internet to Industrial Internet, not only connecting people but also expanding the connection of all things, IoT smart devices. The rapid development of the Internet and new technology services expands the utility and new functions on the DNS system, increasing the complexity of the Internet infrastructure.
To be ready for a sustainable future, the Internet needs to address issues from the root, including improving and ensuring the security of the core Internet infrastructure - the DNS system. This has been clearly demonstrated in the cybersecurity strategies of the European Commission (EU) and major countries such as "Maintaining and ensuring a reliable, flexible, and secure DNS system is a key factor to maintain the integrity, continuous operation, and stability of the Internet and the digital economy and digital society based on the DNS infrastructure" (according to the EU's Cybersecurity Strategy for the Digital Decade).
The IDS Symposium and DNS-OARC Workshop 2023 are held with the theme "The integration of DNS with emerging technologies", focusing on sharing new research on the integration of emerging new technologies (blockchain, IoT, 5G, ...) with the DNS system; New technology solutions, applications of the DNS system and analysis, evaluation, experience in administration, operation, and ensuring system security for DNS.
Within the framework of the conference, ICANN also organized a separate topic on preventing domain name system abuse (DNS Abuse) - preventing the use of domain names or the DNS system/protocol to perform harmful or illegal actions. Currently, DNS abuse is a frequent and serious problem that affects the reliability and security of the Internet, directly harming Internet users.
The event gathered 200 of the world's leading experts, DNS researchers, developers and operators from ICANN, the International Organization for Standardization (IANA), regional and national Internet management organizations (Asia-Pacific Regional Network Information Center - APNIC, DNS4EU (Europe), Cira (Canada), InternetNZ (New Zealand), nic.at GmbH (Austria), SIDN (Netherlands),...), ISPs and large technology enterprises globally (Google, Meta, Comcast, Infoblox, Nominet, OpenDNS/Cisco, Verisign, Salesforce,...).
The ICANN DNS Symposium and DNS-OARC Conference 2023 will be held from September 4-7, 2023 at Melia Beach Danang Resort, Da Nang City. To register and follow information about the event, visit the website: https://www.icann.org/ids
