Association of People with Disabilities strives to implement digital transformation

In recent years, the Provincial Association of People with Disabilities (PWD) has organized many programs, conferences, seminars, and talks to share information and knowledge related to the field of digital transformation (DCT) for officials and members; proactively coordinated with relevant departments, branches, and units in applying DCT technology to support PWD to access all fields more easily; at the same time, paid attention to and focused on the issue of job creation to help members participate in the appropriate labor market.

Accordingly, the Association has coordinated with the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Disabled Persons and Orphans to organize vocational training and job creation activities on a digital technology platform, including an online home-based business project for members of the Association for the Disabled Persons.

Ms. Vu Thi Thinh is a member of the Association of the Disabled in Tan Tuu Ward, Kim Bang Town, and is currently running a pharmacy at home. Ms. Thinh said that she used to study at the Intermediate Pharmacy School (Hanoi). At first, because the internet was not yet developed, she had to go to Hanoi to study. For people with disabilities like her, studying far from home caused many difficulties, often having to ask for support from teachers and classmates to keep up with the program. But since the programs on digital transformation were implemented by the Association of the Disabled at all levels, she can continue to study remotely without having to go directly to school. Ms. Thinh shared: Now, we with disabilities only need a smartphone or a computer with an internet connection, so we can study, find information to serve our profession, use public services, medical services, etc. Digital technology helps us be more convenient in all activities.

Thanks to the Digital Transformation System, Ms. Vu Thi Thinh (Tan Tuu ward, Kim Bang town) can easily study and work at home.

Mr. Vu Van Trong, a trader at Sang market, Tan Tuu ward, Kim Bang town, said: I am currently selling household appliances and curtains. Before, every time I sold goods at the market, I was very self-conscious and afraid to communicate because I was disabled. My business therefore encountered many difficulties. However, with the support and facilitation of the disabled association at all levels, I was able to participate in a number of seminars, workshops, and instructions to improve my skills in exploiting and using digital technology. Through that, I have learned many things, confidently and boldly developed my business through many different sales channels, gradually expanding my customer base. In particular, I focused on selling on social networking sites, selling online by filming short videos introducing products... At first, I was not really familiar with working in cyberspace, but I was not discouraged, I explored on my own, learned more information online, and shared with members to overcome difficulties in the process of doing business online. Now, my work is gradually becoming stable. Moreover, I no longer feel inferior and self-conscious like before, and can live like a normal person.

In fact, thanks to digital transformation, PWDs can participate in public services and digital utilities, education , healthcare, online shopping, online job search, home-based business easily, creating a stable source of income... Digital transformation is considered an opportunity to promote equality for PWDs. However, for a group of PWDs living in rural areas, their capacity and qualifications in all aspects are still limited; some PWDs do not have adequate smart electronic devices, computers, and have not been assisted or instructed on how to use digital transformation applications proficiently; some PWDs lack safety skills when participating in cyberspace... Therefore, PWDs need special support to be able to easily access and effectively use digital transformation. In addition, PWDs themselves need to seize opportunities in digital transformation, proactively learn and improve their technological skills to be more confident in life and gradually integrate into the community.

According to Mr. Tran Quang Dung, Chairman of the Provincial Association of the Disabled, in order to promote the advantages and benefits as well as overcome the difficulties and limitations in digital transformation for the disabled, the Provincial Association of the Disabled has strengthened the propaganda and provision of information on digital transformation policies to the disabled community; organized training activities, provided guidance on the use of applications, technology utilities and ensured safety in cyberspace for the disabled. At the same time, built and developed core groups on technology support at the associations in a regular and long-term manner.
