Hojlund is no longer a Manchester United player. |
In his farewell message, Hojlund admitted that leaving Manchester United brought mixed emotions. He called it the fulfillment of a childhood dream to wear the "Red Devils" shirt, but also the opening of a new chapter in Italy.
"Today's goal symbolizes a new beginning," Hojlund shared after scoring the goal that helped Napoli beat Pisa 3-0 in Serie A's 37th round. He also thanked the fans, his teammates, and the Manchester United coaching staff before embarking on another journey with Napoli.
According to The Athletic, the deal is valued at around £38 million, following Napoli's qualification for the Champions League next season. This would activate the buy-out clause in the loan agreement between the two clubs.
Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford in 2023 for a fee of £63 million plus add-ons, carrying high expectations of becoming a top-class striker. However, he failed to live up to those expectations. After an inconsistent period in England, Hojlund rediscovered his form when he moved to Serie A.
This season, Manchester United's attacking structure has undergone significant changes with the additions of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. The sale of the Danish striker also provided MU with additional funds for rebuilding in the summer of 2026.
In total, Hojlund scored 26 goals in 95 appearances for MU, but only 4 in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season. This figure clearly reflects his inconsistency in English football.
