This is an activity within the national walking program "Moving Forward with Vietnam" jointly organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025), National Day September 2 (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and People's Public Security Tradition Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025).

At the connection points of 33 provinces and centrally-run cities, 3,121/3,321 communes, wards and special zones, there were the participation of leaders of local Party committees and authorities; leaders of the Public Security of provinces, cities, communes, wards and special zones; along with a large number of cadres, soldiers, compatriots and people nationwide.
With the message “1 billion steps into the new era”, the program “Moving forward with Vietnam” is expected to mobilize the collective strength of millions of people across the country to join in walking, marking 1 billion steps for the health, solidarity and aspiration of a nation that is strongly transforming in the new era.
Since early this morning, thousands of officers, soldiers of the armed forces and people of the capital have been present at Ly Thai To Flower Garden - Hoan Kiem Walking Street to be ready to participate in a meaningful walking activity on an unprecedented large scale.
At exactly 6 o'clock, a few minutes before the official launching ceremony took place, the program was directly connected to the Flag Raising Ceremony at the historic Ba Dinh Square. In a sacred, emotional and proud atmosphere, hundreds of thousands of people at connecting points nationwide followed the solemn footsteps of the Honor Guard performing the flag raising ceremony, singing the National Anthem in unison, their hearts beating towards the Fatherland.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, said that with the mission and responsibility of the country's leading press agency, over the years, Nhan Dan Newspaper has effectively disseminated the Party and State's guidelines and policies through many forms and diverse products, increasingly reaching a wide audience.
In addition, the Newspaper also organizes many cultural-sports programs and social activities to arouse national pride, solidarity and contribute to important social, environmental and health goals.
Most recently, the political art program "Fatherland in the Heart" on the evening of August 10 at My Dinh National Stadium attracted more than 50,000 live viewers along with millions of viewers on television and digital platforms.

For the first time, a walking activity will take place simultaneously in 34 provinces and cities with 3,321 communes, wards and administrative zones nationwide. Hundreds of thousands of participants nationwide will wear red shirts with yellow stars, turn to the historic Ba Dinh Square to watch the national flag raising ceremony, sing the national anthem in unison, and walk together at many locations in many localities.
"This is not only a sports event responding to the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" and the movement "Healthy to build and protect the Fatherland", but also a journey of millions of hearts beating together - a place where all generations and all classes of people from urban to rural, mountainous, remote and isolated areas converge. At the Hanoi bridge, cadres, soldiers and people walked around Hoan Kiem Lake to spread the message of improving public health; at the same time, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and aspiration of a nation that is strongly transforming in the new era.
Joining the crowd in carrying out this meaningful activity, Nguyen Dinh Trung Kien, a student of class K12, Hanoi University of Procuracy, could not hide his excitement and pride as this was the first time he had directly participated in a large-scale national walking event like “Moving Forward with Vietnam”.
"My friends and I have been looking forward to this day. Thousands of people in red shirts with yellow stars have created a truly impressive atmosphere. This is a meaningful and practical program to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, National Day September 2 and the People's Public Security Traditional Day. Through participating in the program, I hope to convey the message of patriotism to the people and international friends," Kien expressed.
Not only showing patriotism and spreading a healthy lifestyle, each step accumulated in the walking program "Moving Forward with Vietnam" will become a "green step", contributing to reducing carbon emissions, raising awareness of environmental protection and moving towards the national goal of net-zero emissions that Vietnam committed to at the COP26 Conference.
According to statistics from the Organizing Committee, by the end of the Launching Ceremony, 1,112,336 people had directly participated in the walk in 34 provinces and cities nationwide; 138,248 people registered to participate online via the website cungvietnamtienbuoc.nhandan.vn, starting to record their steps contributing to the journey with the message "1 billion steps towards a new era". The total number of steps accumulated through online and direct forms is about 5 billion steps.
Within the framework of the program, the accompanying unit - Vietcombank has committed to contribute 3 billion VND to the Vietnam Children's Fund, and at the same time called on customers to spread the message of "1 billion green steps" by promoting and transferring donations through the account "Step forward with me" to accompany poor students to overcome difficulties on the occasion of the opening of the new school year 2025-2026.
