More than 500 athletes participate in the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Summer Sports Festival in Binh Duong

VHO - On the morning of August 28, the Opening Ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh City Summer Sports Festival (Region 2) 2025 was held at the multi-purpose gymnasium of the Binh Duong Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center.

The event was held to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day September 2.

The program took place in a joyful, exciting, colorful atmosphere of sports so that students could have the opportunity to exchange and compete in sports before the new school year begins.

Taking place over two days (August 28-29), the Sports Festival attracted the enthusiastic participation of 502 student athletes from 69 clubs of primary schools, middle schools, high schools, and general education institutions in communes and wards of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Binh Duong province).

Athletes will compete in five sports: Taekwondo, Vovinam, Tan Khanh Ba Tra Martial Arts, Swimming and Basketball, of which Vovinam and Tan Khanh Ba Tra are two traditional martial arts of the nation.

Mr. Cao Van Chong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City, Head of the Sports Festival Organizing Committee, presented souvenir flags to participating units.

In particular, Tan Khanh Ba Tra Martial Arts originated in Tan Phuoc Khanh Ward (formerly Binh Duong Province is Tan Khanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2021 and Vovinam was also included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023, this is the pride of the students and the Vietnamese people.

Right after the Opening Ceremony, the competitions took place in an exciting and attractive manner, attracting a large number of spectators, parents, and students to watch, cheer, and support the athletes. The Swimming event was held at Community Swimming Pool 1 (Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Binh Duong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) on the morning of August 29.

The Summer Sports Festival is an annual sports event held every year, a meaningful sports festival, a healthy and useful playground, creating conditions for people of all walks of life, especially young people, to exercise, improve their spiritual life and promote the spirit of solidarity, exchange and learning.
