Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan; Mr. Emmanuel Cerise, Chief Representative of Region Ile-de-France in Hanoi, along with scientists , researchers, artists, leaders of associations, agencies, units and a large number of people in the ward.

Hanoi is a special urban heritage with many connected historical spaces, including: the central area of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the old quarter, the old quarter (also known as the French quarter) and the area outside the Red River dike. In which, the old quarter holds a strategic position, is the connecting space between many areas, and has a distinct identity.

The wide checkerboard structure, high density of green space, shady rows of trees and lovely villas have created the elegant and harmonious beauty of Hanoi's old quarter.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, French planners have skillfully combined Western architecture with local climatic conditions, forming a unique urban space, contributing to the unique identity of Hanoi that no other city in Southeast Asia has.

However, over time and under the impact of urbanization, many French architectural works have degraded, even at risk of being unsafe, requiring timely conservation and restoration measures.

Recognizing the value of the old quarter, Hanoi City has issued many specific policies and programs to preserve and promote the value of heritage space. Typical examples include Decision No. 24/2015/QD-UBND dated August 13, 2015 promulgating the Regulations on planning and architectural management of Hanoi Old Quarter; Program No. 03-CTr/TU dated March 17, 2021 of the Hanoi Party Committee on "Urban beautification, urban development and urban economy of Hanoi City in the period 2021-2025".

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Nam Ward, said: Hoan Kiem District (formerly) and the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter have carried out projects to restore and renovate many typical French architectural works.

That is the restoration of the model villa at 49 Tran Hung Dao - 46 Hang Bai within the framework of cooperation between Hanoi City and Ile-de-France region; renovation of typical works such as the Hoan Kiem District Police Headquarters (formerly) - 2 Le Thai To, Cua Dong Ward Police (formerly) - 18 Nguyen Quang Bich, Kindergarten 1.6 - 23 Nguyen Quang Bich, Trung Vuong Secondary School - 26 Hang Bai...

In addition, Hoan Kiem district (formerly) also carried out a project to renovate the architecture and landscape of Trang Tien street, repave sidewalks on the streets, contributing to restoring the characteristic beauty of the old French quarter.

“The ward's urban development orientation focuses on three pillars: effective urban management - preserving and promoting heritage values - applying technology for smart cities associated with digital transformation.

Immediately after implementing the 2-level local government model from July 1, Cua Nam ward continued to deploy urban design for the streets: Ly Thuong Kiet, Hai Ba Trung, Tran Hung Dao, design the general layout of old apartment buildings, renovate traffic signs, arrange vehicles on sidewalks...", Chairman of Cua Nam ward People's Committee emphasized.

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoan, the Resolution of the 1st Congress of the Party Committee of Cua Nam Ward for the 2025-2030 term clearly identified the effective preservation of urban planning and valuable architectural works as a key task, closely linked with the goal of managing a smart, modern, bright - green - clean - beautiful urban area of Hanoi Capital.

The exhibition is also an opportunity for experts, management agencies and the community to discuss, share experiences, spread awareness about the value of urban heritage and the common responsibility in preserving the image of Hanoi - City for Peace, Creative City.

According to the planning orientation, the Old Quarter is identified as an important core area in the heritage space network of the Capital. The core principle of the project is to closely link architectural, urban and landscape heritage elements, forming a "heritage arc" from the Opera House to Thien Quang Lake, connecting areas with high characteristic values.

This will be an important premise for Hanoi to both preserve its heritage and develop sustainably, moving towards the image of a modern, civilized and deeply cultural capital.
