Hong Nghe aims for advanced new rural development.

Hong Nghe – a small, purely agricultural hamlet in An Khanh commune – has consistently held the title of "Cultural Hamlet" for many years. Despite facing many difficulties, Hong Nghe has persistently transformed itself through the simplest things: village roads have been widened and paved with concrete; residents actively practice civilized customs in weddings and funerals; and above all, the spirit of unity and harmonious living among the people here is evident.

Hong Nghe currently has 108 households with nearly 400 inhabitants, comprising 5 ethnic groups living together; of which ethnic minorities account for about 35%. This diversity does not create distance but, on the contrary, becomes a bond that unites the community.

Sharing with us, the head of Hong Nghe hamlet, Tran Van Cuong, said: "What I cherish most in my 18 years as hamlet head is the spirit of unity, love, and mutual support. When people trust each other, discuss things together, and work together, even the most difficult tasks can be accomplished. It is this solidarity that has helped Hong Nghe consistently achieve the title of 'Cultural Hamlet' for many years and recently complete the criteria for an advanced new rural hamlet."

Hong Nghe is a purely agricultural village. Over 18 hectares of rice paddies, 9 hectares of tea plantations, and nearly 20 hectares of forest are valuable assets that sustain the local people; some households have boldly developed services and small-scale trading to increase their income. However, agricultural production in Hong Nghe has never been easy. The biggest challenge is water resources. Due to its unique topography, Hong Nghe lacks an irrigation system, and production is almost entirely dependent on rainwater.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, a resident of the hamlet, confided: "In years with favorable weather, it's manageable, but when there's a prolonged drought, the fields crack. However, the villagers still encourage each other, switch to new rice varieties, and apply proper techniques to increase yields."

In recent years, people have actively introduced high-yielding, high-quality rice and tea varieties into production. As a result, productivity has increased significantly, and income per unit area has risen. The average income currently reaches over 54 million VND/person/year, a relatively high level compared to the average in purely agricultural areas.

Besides relying on farming, the hamlet is also located near several large companies. Recognizing this as an opportunity, Mr. Tran Van Cuong and the hamlet leaders proactively coordinated with businesses to both ensure environmental protection and create jobs for unskilled laborers.

“We regularly work with companies to reduce noise and dust pollution, ensuring it doesn't affect people's lives. At the same time, we suggest they prioritize hiring local workers. Thanks to this, many families have gained a more stable source of income,” said Mr. Tran Van Cuong.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a worker near the village, shared: "Previously, I only worked in the fields, and my income was unstable. Since being hired at the company near my home, I have additional income, and I still manage to work on tea and rice cultivation every month, so life is much less difficult."

One of the most striking features of Hong Nghe is its transportation infrastructure. Over 90% of the village roads have been concreted. The village cultural center is spacious and beautiful, ranking among the best in the commune, with a total construction investment of nearly 900 million VND. Notably, the villagers voluntarily donated over 2,000 square meters of land to expand the main road to 6 meters wide and over 400 meters long, facilitating travel and the transportation of goods. From a purely agricultural village facing many difficulties, Hong Nghe today boasts a new appearance: spacious concrete roads, well-built houses, lush green fields, and vast green forests...
