Phong Chau Bridge in Phu Tho closed

On August 27, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of National Defense and Phu Tho province held a ceremony to close the new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C, spanning the Red River.

The new Phong Chau Bridge was built to replace the old bridge that collapsed in September 2024, causing a disruption in the vital traffic axis connecting the provincial center with the western localities of the province.

The project has a total length of 653m, a width of 20.5m, a scale of 4 lanes for motor vehicles, a prestressed reinforced concrete beam structure with a total investment of more than 635 billion VND.

Delegates performed the closing ceremony of Phong Chau bridge.

The project is invested by Thang Long Project Management Board and constructed by Truong Son Construction Corporation - Army Corps 12. The project started on December 21, 2024.

After nearly 9 months of lightning-fast construction in "3 shifts, 4 crews", the units have completed the entire main span structure for merging, nearly 2 months ahead of schedule.

The project is expected to be put into operation in early October, about 2.5 to 3 months ahead of the contract schedule (contract completion date December 31, 2025).

When completed, the new Phong Chau Bridge will be of particular importance in restoring National Highway 32C, ensuring smooth and safe traffic, meeting the needs of travel, transporting goods and providing rescue services during the rainy and stormy season. The project will not only remove infrastructure bottlenecks but also create momentum for socio -economic development, attracting investment and tourism for Phu Tho and neighboring localities.
