With a breakthrough in applying technical advances to production, Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative (Muong La district, Son La ) has turned mango into a local specialty product, contributing to increasing income for members of the cooperative.
Improving mango varieties, opening up new opportunities
Before 2021, the yield and quality of this mango variety were not high due to lack of improvement. In order to change this situation, the Muong La District Agricultural Service Center supported a pilot grafting and improvement of 5 hectares of mango trees with trees 30 to 40 years old. The results were beyond expectations: the improved mango trees achieved outstanding yield and quality, opening up the opportunity to turn local mango trees into a key crop.
Realizing the potential of this traditional tree, in November 2022, Mr. Lo Van Hinh, a resident of Ket village, mobilized households to establish Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative. With the joint efforts of 7 main members and 10 satellite members, the Cooperative manages 17 hectares of mango, including 10 hectares of local mango and 7 hectares of Taiwanese mango. This is the starting point for a strong transformation in agriculture of the members participating in the Cooperative.
Applying technology and developing in the direction of VietGAP
Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative has made efforts to apply science and technology to production. Cooperative members have been trained thoroughly, visited effective models and guided to produce according to VietGAP standards. Thanks to that, the Cooperative's local mangoes were recognized as 3-star OCOP products in April 2024, affirming the quality and brand value.
Mr. Lo Van Hinh, Director of the Cooperative, said: “Our mango products are characterized by their small size, green skin that turns light yellow when ripe, round fruit and sweet taste. In particular, the production process does not use chemical pesticides, only organic fertilizers and biological products, ensuring safe product quality and being favored by the market.”
Impressive results from the last mango crop
In the last mango crop, Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative sold more than 25 tons of mangoes, earning nearly 400 million VND. The mango products not only meet quality standards but also meet market demands thanks to their beautiful appearance and unique flavor.
Diversify crops, increase economic efficiency
In addition to mangoes, Minh Trong Ta Bu Cooperative has also expanded production to other crops. In 2022, the Cooperative cooperated with Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company to test-plant 3 hectares of Queen pineapple. Thanks to technical support and product consumption, the pineapple area has now increased to 5 hectares. In addition, members also grow jackfruit, longan and many other fruit trees to increase income.
Future direction: From fresh fruit to deep processing
Director of the Cooperative, Mr. Lo Van Hinh, shared that in the coming time, the Cooperative will continue to expand its production scale towards VietGAP and organic standards. In addition to consuming fresh mangoes, the Cooperative is also developing a plan to develop processed products such as dried and soft mangoes to increase the value of the products.
