Interacting with Vietnamese fans on the evening of November 30 in Ho Chi Minh City, world football legend Ruud Gullit wished the Vietnamese team victory at the 2024 ASEAN Cup.

Ruud Gullit won the "Golden Ball" in 1987 and was the captain of the Netherlands team that won Euro 1988. His comprehensive technique, strength and flamboyant playing style have inspired millions of football fans around the world. This world football legend was invited by EA Sports FC Online (formerly FIFA Online 4) to Vietnam to meet and interact with fans at Saigon River Park. The program is part of a series of special projects by FC Online Vietnam, aiming to bring Vietnamese football fans in general and FC Online players in particular the opportunity to get closer to world football legends. At the age of 62, Ruud Gullit still maintains his strength and wit when interacting with fans.

He shared his surprise when he received the call announcing that he had won the "Golden Ball" in 1987, the extreme happiness when he and the Dutch team won Euro 1988, especially the feeling of defeating Germany right on their opponent's field in the semi-finals of that year's tournament. Talking about being included in the game and being a player with extremely "dominant" stats that every player wants to own, Ruud Gullit said he was happy to be remembered and accepted by the younger generation. He said: "In my time, the games were quite simple, such as the snake game, not as many and diverse as now. Especially football games. I also tried FC Online, and saw that many people chose me for the team. I am happy that the game can connect the current generation with our time." However, Ruud Gullit also advised children to focus their time on studying and only play games for entertainment when they have free time.

In response to fans' questions about Vietnamese football, Ruud Gullit shared: "It is difficult to comment on Vietnamese football because I don't watch much. But I think, to develop, Vietnamese football first needs to have many players playing in Europe. Second, focus on youth training. And finally, the national championship needs to be truly professional to create a foundation for Vietnamese football to develop. Vietnamese people are very passionate about football. Hopefully that will help Vietnam be able to participate in the World Cup". The former player who played for AC Milan and Chelsea also said that if Vietnam invited him to come and train youth, he would leave the possibility open to consideration. Ruud Gullit wished Vietnamese football success at the upcoming ASEAN Cup 2024. "I wish the players and coaching staff of the Vietnamese team good luck at the ASEAN Cup 2024. Football requires tactical discipline and concentration not only when the players are on the field but also when they are on the bench. Because when the opponent makes a mistake, the opportunity comes, we must know how to seize it."

Hong Son wishes Vietnam team confidence in victory

Present at the event, former football star Nguyen Hong Son also shared with fans about Vietnam's World Cup dream with legend Ruud Gullit and about the upcoming ASEAN Cup 2024 tournament. He said: "Vietnamese football is still at the level of Southeast Asia, not Asia, let alone Europe. Vietnamese football is striving to improve its level, and I hope Vietnam can achieve the goal of being present at the 2030 World Cup."
