Hyundai has issued a recall for 12,349 2024 Santa Fe vehicles in the US after discovering a transmission control software error that could lead to damage to the vehicle's transmission. The error stems from the current transmission control software that accidentally activates the clutch, damaging the transmission or the parking clutch.
Hyundai SantaFe 2024 recalled in the US due to transmission control software error.
If this fault occurs, the vehicle may continue to move freely even when the driver has engaged P. This not only poses a safety risk, but may also cause the customer to notice strange sounds coming from the transmission system if the transmission fails.
The Korean automaker has received at least 45 reports of the problem between June 3 and June 27 in the United States. However, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
This recall is not limited to the US but has also been expanded to Canada, where approximately 806 other 2024 Santa Fe vehicles will be recalled for inspection.
Any damaged gearbox will be replaced free of charge where necessary.
To fix the issue, Hyundai will install a new software update for the transmission control unit. When the customer brings their vehicle in for the software update, they will also be inspected to ensure there is no damage to the transmission. Any damaged transmission will be replaced free of charge if necessary.
Customers will receive recall notices from Hyundai starting September 9. The Korean automaker recommends that customers quickly take their vehicles to authorized dealers for inspection and repair to ensure safety for themselves and other road users.
