Is iPhone 16 the phone with the best battery life?

The iPhone 16 series has been on the market for about 10 days. Third parties have been conducting tests on the latest versions.

Recently, technology review site Tom's Guide published a list of smartphones with the longest battery life and it's no surprise that two of the new iPhone models made the list.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max came in third, with 18 hours and 6 minutes of battery life between charges.

However, according to Tom's Guide's tests, the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro is the phone that tops the list and offers the longest battery life, lasting 18 hours and 48 minutes between charges. Next is the OnePlus 12R, with 18 hours and 42 minutes. The iPhone 16 Pro Max comes in third, with 18 hours and 6 minutes between charges.

For comparison, Tom's Guide ran its tests continuously over 5G until the phone shut down due to battery drain. The phone's screen was set to 150 nits (a measure of luminance) during the test. For phones with fast refresh rates, the site tested multiple times with that feature turned on and off to draw conclusions about battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with 16 hours and 45 minutes of battery life, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus (16 hours and 32 minutes), the iPhone 16 Plus (16 hours and 29 minutes), the Motorola Edge Plus 2023 (15 hours and 47 minutes) and the Moto G Stylus 5G 2024 (15 hours and one minute) rounded out the top 10.

Rounding out the top 15 are the Nothing Phone 2a (15 hours), Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (14 hours 37 minutes), Motorola Razr 2024 (14 hours 37 minutes), Moto G 5G 2024 (14 hours 36 minutes), and Nothing Phone (14 hours 21 minutes).

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra battery life lasts 16 hours and 45 minutes.

As for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, Tom's Guide praises Apple's decision to add longer battery life than last year's model, as well as the power efficiency of the phone's all-new A18 Pro chipset.

"This battery life isn't enough to surpass some of the higher gaming phones on this list, like the Asus ROG Phone 8. Still, Apple has done a great job of extending the battery life of the iPhone 16 Pro Max," Tom's Guide commented.

The Tom's Guide review article said that the iPhone 16 Plus achieved two hours more battery life than the previous version, the iPhone 15 Plus, released 1 year ago. According to this group of technology experts, "the energy efficiency of the A18 chipset inside the iPhone 16 Plus has been significantly improved, and the fact that Apple has equipped the phone with a larger battery".

Apple promises that the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Plus will last more than a day between charges with typical use. Assuming customers don’t use their phones as much as Tom’s Guide did in our tests, the US phone maker has delivered on its promise.
