Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, visited the former Director of Long An Radio and Television Station on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day.
Former Director of Long An Radio and Television Station (now Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) - Pham Van Dung: Journalism is a journey of continuous learning and adaptation. |
Perhaps never before has journalism faced so many challenges as it does today: the information explosion, social media infiltrating every corner of life, and artificial intelligence (AI) gradually "knocking on the door" of newsrooms. However, amidst this technological "storm," core values remain a guiding light for true journalists.
Although I've only been involved in journalism for about five years, in my role I've witnessed countless changes, from print newspapers to radio and television, and now to the digital age. Each era has its own unique characteristics, but one thing I've always believed is that anyone in journalism, whether a reporter or working in the post-production department, who doesn't keep up with the pace of change will inevitably fall behind, or even be eliminated.
Now, we are facing a new challenge: artificial intelligence. Many people ask me whether journalists' misuse of AI violates professional ethics . I frankly answer that this entirely depends on the integrity of the journalist.
I believe that if journalists abuse AI—similar to plagiarism or copying in academia—it will ultimately be unsustainable. The most important thing is to remember the core principle: AI supports humans, but it cannot replace them. We must still be in control, maintaining integrity and composure to report truthfully, objectively, and with value.
Journalism is a journey of continuous learning and adaptation. Always keep the flame of passion burning and maintain a pure heart!

Journalist Thanh Thuy (Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station): Ethics and mindset - "Guiding principles" in the AI era. |
As an alumnus of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, a school with a long tradition of journalism training, I have always been instilled with professional ethics and mindset since my student days. No matter how the landscape of journalism changes, or how modern the journalistic environment becomes, the word "ethics" has always been the guiding principle throughout my career in journalism.
Having dedicated over 10 years to journalism, I've witnessed the dramatic transformation of modern journalism, especially in the current era where artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise. In the course of our work, AI is truly a powerful assistant. It helps journalists operate more conveniently through tools, software, and applications, thereby meeting the need for timely and rapid information. However, this very technological advancement has also blurred the lines between truth and falsehood. If we are not vigilant and do not thoroughly verify sources, journalists can easily fall prey to fake news, manipulated images, or be swept away by sensationalist, clickbait stories.
Ultimately, AI is a useful tool to help us work more efficiently, but the key factor remains the ethics and mindset of the user. No matter how advanced the technology becomes, the passion for the profession, along with the ethics and sharp thinking of journalists, must remain the prerequisites to ensure the objective truth of journalistic information when conveyed to the public and to ensure that humans always master artificial intelligence in the digital age.
Reporter Kim Thoa: Turning AI technology into a powerful assistant.
Reporter Kim Thoa (Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station): Turning AI technology into a powerful assistant. |
Entering the field of print journalism, I spent my days familiar with pages and words. But now, after the merger of newspapers and television, I'm embarking on a new journey, becoming a more versatile journalist and gradually moving into television production. Although I didn't receive formal journalism training, nearly five years in the profession have given me so much. I've learned and been inspired by my seniors, and most importantly, I've been able to live my passion.
In the context of the current Fourth Industrial Revolution, technology is permeating every aspect of life, and journalism is no exception. Indeed, technology offers so many benefits. It helps us work more efficiently, faster, and meet readers' information needs promptly. But it is precisely because of this convenience that I sometimes worry. Are we becoming too dependent on technology and neglecting critical thinking and the ability to independently verify information?
As a journalist constantly adapting to the digital revolution, I always embrace change and adapt to the digital age of journalism. Therefore, I firmly believe that technology should be a support, not a dependency. We must master technology, not let it master us, so that each journalistic work retains its honesty, objectivity, and true value.

Mr. Chi Tam (Tan Thanh District Cultural, Information and Broadcasting Center): Upholding values in the flow of information |
When I first started my career, I began working at the Nhon Hoa Commune Radio Station in Tan Thanh District. Although I was a newcomer to the field, I gradually developed a passion for it. This led me to decide to study journalism. In 2020, I officially transferred to the District Radio Station (now the Tan Thanh District Cultural, Information and Broadcasting Center, Long An Province).
Having lived and worked in this profession, experiencing and witnessing many things, I've come to deeply understand the challenges journalists face. Especially in today's information-saturated environment, journalists merely following trends is a worrying issue. We cannot simply be relayers of what's "hot" on social media; we must be verifiers, analysts, and guides for our readers. For me, whether at the grassroots or higher levels, the integrity and clear-headedness to avoid being swept away by fleeting trends are extremely important. We must always remember that the responsibility of a journalist is to provide accurate and reliable information, not stories that simply follow social media trends.
