According to sources from The Information , Apple is studying changing the launch schedule of the iPhone 18 series in 2026. Some models may launch in September as usual, the remaining models will move to the spring of next year.
“The iPhone 18 lineup will include upgrades to the ultra-thin iPhone, the iPhone Pro, the Pro Max, and a foldable model. By spring 2027, Apple plans to launch the standard iPhone 18 and a successor to the iPhone 16e,” said Wayne Ma of The Information .
Apple hopes this plan can improve iPhone sales. In recent years, iPhone sales have stagnated because the difference between generations is not much.
If the rumors are correct, the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and foldable iPhone models could launch in September 2026. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to launch in early 2027.
Changing the release schedule could also make it easier for Apple to manage new iPhone models. The arrival of the foldable iPhone means the 2026 iPhone lineup will have six devices instead of five. So rolling out in batches could cut down on the number of workers it has to hire at once.
Based on rumors, the iPhone 18 Pro may be equipped with Face ID under the screen for the first time, keeping only a small round hole in the upper left corner. The folding model is expected to have a book-like design with a 5.7-inch outer screen, the main screen when opened is nearly 8 inches wide.
According to The Information , the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are based on an older and less complex design and are expected to undergo trial production in India. This is also Apple's new solution to minimize risks if manufactured in China.
If the rumors are correct, Apple will position the iPhone 18 as a low-cost model similar to the iPhone 18e. The company launched the iPhone 16e in February this year to replace the iPhone SE.

In the iPhone 16e reveal post in February, CEO Tim Cook described it as “the newest member of the family,” hinting at the possibility that the device could be upgraded every year.
According to data from Counterpoint Research , Apple held the number one position in the global smartphone market share for the first time in the first quarter (19%). Of which, the iPhone 16e is considered a major contributor, in addition to high demand in some emerging markets.
According to 9to5Mac , part of Apple's plan to improve sales also involves the launch of the iPhone 17 Air, although the supply chain does not have high sales expectations. Based on rumors, the iPhone 17 Air only accounts for 10% of production capacity.
Apple's supply chain is currently unable to predict iPhone 17 Air sales. However, they are ready to shift iPhone 17 Air assembly output to other models, in case the ultra-thin device is not successful.
