After a year of official launch in Vietnam, the iPhone SE 2022 has disappeared from Apple Authorized Dealers (AAR) and is almost out of business. Even the distributor has limited the import of this product into the country.
According to an AAR representative, the poor sales of the small-screen iPhone is the reason why the unit is no longer interested in this model. With a price range of 10 million VND, the product becomes less competitive compared to some models in the same price range on the market because the small screen does not suit Vietnamese tastes, along with the old design, using many years old Touch ID technology.
"The purchasing power has not even reached 1% of the proportion," the spokesperson shared. The iPhone SE 2022 is even considered a "failed" model, at least in the Vietnamese market, with consumption lower than the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini - the two models at the "bottom" of the sales chart. The 3rd generation SE itself has also received many negative reviews from users. From Apple's side, the company has cut production since the first week of sale.
This information is not too surprising because at the time of launch, many AARs predicted sluggish purchasing power for this product, with an pessimistic view. Before the device arrived in Vietnam (April 15, 2022), dealers all commented that the iPhone SE 2022 was not suitable for Vietnamese smartphone buying habits, "before it was released for sale, it was known that it would not sell well". Dealers determined to only import enough Apple products in very limited quantities and would not import more in subsequent orders.
iPhone SE 2022 does not suit Vietnamese tastes
At the end of 2022, the "out of stock" situation for iPhone SE 2022 appeared sporadically in some retail chains and has now officially disappeared from the systems.
The failure of the iPhone SE 2022 is not only in Vietnam but also on an international scale. The product has a high price but has an old design, a small 4.7-inch screen, which goes against the current trend of using large-screen smartphones. Launched in 2022, the device still has the design of the iPhone 8 (2017), using a 4.7-inch LCD panel, only changing the configuration. But the selling price of the lowest version is up to 10 million VND, and the 256 GB model is nearly 16 million VND.
Meanwhile, an iPhone 13 with 128 GB capacity costs more than 16 million VND. The difference of nearly 1 million VND is not large, but the value that the iPhone 13 brings to users is much higher, for example, a new design, better hardware, a 6.1-inch screen, compatibility and longer-term use compared to the 2022 phone with a 4.7-inch screen in the shape of the 2017 model.
At the basic configuration with a price of 10 million VND, iPhone SE 2022 cannot compete with iPhone 11 (released in 2019) as well as competitors using Android operating system from other manufacturers. Carrying iOS, but SE 2022 lacks fashion and advanced technology, not meeting the general taste.
Like the iPhone SE 2022, the iPhone 11 is still in the product line that Apple sells, so there are no signs of a shortage of supply. Although there are only 2 basic colors, white or black, the device still attracts customers because these are colors that are not picky, suitable for both men and women. When it was first launched, the device had 6 color options including black, white, turquoise, purple, yellow, and red.
