Iron Dome air defense system has technical error
According to a VNA reporter in Tel Aviv, the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) on May 4 launched the first unmanned mini-submarine to enhance the intelligence gathering capabilities of the Israeli military (IDF).
The 12-meter-long “Blue Whale” submarine (pictured) is designed to serve intelligence gathering operations, detect enemy submarines and intercept sound waves from intelligence targets. This new equipment allows the IDF to significantly reduce the personnel and operating costs of other manned fleets.
The autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) has spent thousands of hours operating autonomously underwater. It is equipped with radar and electro-optical systems and a periscope capable of detecting targets on the sea surface and in coastal areas.
In another development, the results of a preliminary investigation by the Israeli military (IDF) on May 4 revealed that the Iron Dome system developed a technical error that allowed some rockets from the Gaza Strip to penetrate the “missile shield” and cause some serious damage to Israel on May 2.
The IDF missile defense unit quickly identified and resolved the technical error, thereby restoring the Iron Dome system to full effectiveness. According to records, during rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip on May 3, the Iron Dome system achieved an interception efficiency of 90.5%.
