(CLO) The Israeli military said the latest commander responsible for funding Lebanon's Hezbollah group has been "eliminated" in Syria.
In a statement on October 21, Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the commander who was killed was the head of Hezbollah's Unit 4400, "responsible for money and transfers" for the group. He added that the commander had been "eliminated" in Syria "a few hours ago." He said the position was previously held by Mohammed Jafar Ksir, also known as Sheikh Salah.

Also on October 21, the Syrian Defense Ministry announced the death of two non-Syrians in an airstrike believed to have been carried out by Israel on a car in Damascus.
Unit 4400 is tasked with transporting Iranian oil to Syria, then selling it to Lebanon. Mr Hagari said its value was “in the tens of millions of dollars”.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has condemned the destruction of civilian property in Beirut after Israel said it was targeting Hezbollah's finances.
"One of our main targets last night was an underground bunker containing millions of dollars in cash and gold. This money was used to finance Hezbollah's attacks on Israel," Hagari said earlier.
More than a dozen sites linked to Hezbollah's financial system were hit in airstrikes across Lebanon on October 20.
“International humanitarian law must always be respected,” the UN wrote. “Civilians and civilian infrastructure are not targets.”
