Jonny Evans continues to stick with MU

Just days after officially hanging up his boots, Jonny Evans is very close to a new role at Manchester United.

According to The Athletic , the "Red Devils" leadership wants to keep the 37-year-old former center-back with a position in the backroom department, after his contract expires this summer.

Despite his absence from the pitch, Evans will still play a key role in shaping the club's future. He will be in charge of youth loan deals. "It's an area that requires sophistication and a deep understanding of youth development," the source said.

The United board were particularly impressed with Evans' influence in the dressing room. He regularly gave valuable advice to young players and stressed the importance of understanding and preserving the United identity. During last year's summer tour of the United States, Evans also spoke out in defence of the club's staff when they faced a wave of layoffs.

Evans made 107 appearances for his country, scoring six goals, and was a mainstay of Northern Ireland's squad at Euro 2016. At club level, Evans joined Manchester United in 2008/09, competing with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. He stayed with the club for nine seasons, winning three Premier League titles.

In 2023, Erik ten Hag brought Evans back to MU on a free transfer. The decision was initially questioned but ultimately proved to be the right one as he helped the team win the 2024 FA Cup, with a 2-1 victory over Man City.

MU also said goodbye to Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof when the 2024/25 season ended. Only goalkeeper number 3 Tom Heaton was offered a one-year extension.
