Former midfielder Yaya Toure wants Harry Kane to stay with Tottenham for the rest of his career to become a club icon like legend Paolo Maldini at AC Milan.
After a period of working part-time, Toure was appointed Tottenham U16 coach in August 2022. This summer, the former Ivory Coast midfielder left the English club to take up an assistant role at Belgian club Standard Liege.
Having spent time at Spurs, Toure recognised Kane's star quality and wants him to stay at the club. "Kane is a fantastic player and a great leader," the 40-year-old told the PA news agency. "I hope Kane stays at Tottenham, what he did last season was unbelievable. Having worked there, I can see how close the Tottenham players are, they all trust each other."

Toure wants Kane to retire at Tottenham - the club he joined from the academy, like Paolo Maldini at AC Milan or Steven Gerrard at Liverpool. "If Kane did that, it would be meaningful," the former Ivory Coast midfielder expressed.
Maldini spent his entire career at Milan, playing for the academy from 1978 to 1984 and the youth team from 1984 to 2009. He holds the record for 902 appearances for Milan, winning seven Serie A titles and five European Cups/Champions Leagues. Gerrard played for the youth team from 1989 to 1998 and the Liverpool first team from 1998 to 2015, helping them win the 2005 Champions League. He also holds the record for being named in the Premier League Team of the Year eight times, despite never winning the title. The former England midfielder played one more season for LA Galaxy before retiring in 2016.
In 2004, Kane joined the youth team and was promoted to the Tottenham first team in 2009. He played for Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich, Leicester on loan and became a mainstay of Tottenham for nearly 10 years. Kane scored 213 goals in 317 matches for Tottenham, becoming the club's all-time top scorer in February, breaking the old record of 266 goals set by the legendary Jimmy Greaves. Kane is currently the second highest scorer in Premier League history, 47 goals behind Alan Shearer's record.

The English striker was the Premier League's top scorer in three seasons 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2020-2021, but has yet to win any domestic or international titles. Therefore, many people want Kane to move to a club with more ambition and the ability to compete for the championship.
Toure disagrees. "Tottenham have everything to be successful, with a fantastic stadium and facilities," he explained. "What do they need now? Maybe more quality players. This league is very competitive. I hope and believe that if Kane stays, new players will come in, and the club will improve and be able to challenge for something."
Man Utd were once considered the number one candidate to sign Kane this summer. Coach Erik Ten Hag wanted a top-class striker to prepare for his ambition to win the Premier League and Champions League next season. But the deal fell through when Man Utd did not have enough budget to meet the nearly $150 million price tag that Chairman Daniel Levy wanted.
Bayern is another potential destination, as the club also needs a top striker after losing Robert Lewandowski to Barca last summer. Late last month, the "Gray Tigers" sent an offer of 77 million USD plus additional fees, but was rejected. According to German newspaper Bild , Bayern has not given up yet, with coach Thomas Tuchel flying to London and visiting Kane's home to directly convince the striker.
