In E Kia village (Ia Rsai commune, Krong Pa district), Mr. Hiao Thuyen is known as a talented artisan who is good at playing bamboo flutes, performing gongs, singing folk songs... Through his practical work, he has contributed to preserving the cultural identity of the Jrai ethnic group and building great solidarity in the village.
Born and raised in a cultural space rich in the identity of the Jrai people, Mr. Thuyen was soon exposed to Jrai folk songs and traditional musical instruments.

The skillful way of punching the holes helps the flute not only resonate far but also conveys the mood and story of the flute player. In particular, practicing the ability to listen and feel each pitch and rhythm accurately is also extremely important to be able to improvise flexibly in each folk song.
According to Mr. Thuyen, in the cultural life of the Jrai people, the flute is not only a musical instrument but also a bridge between people and the mountains and forests, often used to start or end a song.
Currently, Mr. Thuyen can perform more than 100 bamboo flute pieces with diverse themes, from praising the Party, Uncle Ho, love for the homeland and country to simple village melodies. He has also brought his flute to competitions organized by the commune and district and "collected" many prestigious awards.

Besides playing the flute, artisan Hiao Thuyen also crafts musical instruments. According to him, to create a resonant and melodious flute, the craftsman must carefully select bamboo, carve holes precisely to the millimeter and ensure the perfect dryness of the flute.
Not stopping there, this talented artist can also sing and compose lyrics for Jrai folk songs. Among them, the song “Pơni ayong Xoan” (Thanks to Brother Xoan) was awarded second prize at the Cultural and Sports Festival of Ethnic Minorities in Krong Pa District in 2022.
Not only is he known as a talented bamboo flute player, Mr. Thuyen also plays an important role in maintaining peace and building great solidarity in the E Kia village community. Whether he is a member of the Village Front Committee or in the position of Village Chief, he is always dedicated and devoted to the common cause, and is trusted and respected by the villagers. Under his advocacy, the villagers agreed to donate land to open roads and build new rural areas, contributing to changing the face of the village.
With his dedication, in 2014, Mr. Thuyen was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee for his many contributions to building national unity in residential areas. In 2016, he was awarded a certificate of merit by the Central Highlands Steering Committee for his outstanding achievements in mobilizing the masses to build movements in the village.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ro O Ha - Vice Chairman of Ia Rsai Commune People's Committee - commented: Mr. Hiao Thuyen is a very active and responsible person for the common work of the village. In particular, he always enthusiastically supports people in solving administrative procedures; propagates and mobilizes villagers to respond to emulation movements...
In addition, he is a talented bamboo flute artist, a pioneer in local cultural and artistic activities. Through his work, he has made great contributions to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Jrai people.
