In the 2022-2023 school year, the Cao Loc District Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High School Union will implement the model "Small plan to light up dreams", with the goal of building a fund to support team members in difficult circumstances and integrating activitiesto educate life skills, practice the spirit of thrift, sense of responsibility and solidarity.
To achieve that goal, right from the beginning of each school year, the school's Youth Union has initiated each team to place a "Small Plan" box in the classroom and dormitory area, so that team members can contribute scrap paper, plastic bottles, cans, etc. Every Friday afternoon, the executive committee of each team will sort and bring scrap to the "Small Plan House".
The model does not stop at collecting scrap but is also expanded with many creative fundraising activities. Team members are encouraged to use their free time to make keychains, woolen animals, and handicrafts to sell at annual school events such as food fairs, Tet markets, and ethnic cultural festivals... Each team is also equipped with a "piggy bank" so that team members can contribute their savings or money earned from selling handicrafts to build the team fund.
A highlight of the model is the movement to design a “Small Plan” bulletin board, which is implemented and updated regularly by the teams themselves. The bulletin board is presented vividly and inspires team members to track their own contributions and at the same time set common goals for the group. Thereby, the cohesion and sense of responsibility of each individual is clearly enhanced.
Nong Hong Nhung, a member of the 8A2 team, shared: “When I learned that the scrap paper I collected would be sold to raise money to help disadvantaged students in the school, I was very happy. My friends and I also made many keychains and small brocade bags to sell to raise funds, contributing to spreading love.”
After 3 years of implementation, the fund-raising movements and activities from the model have raised more than 12 million VND, of which the first school year alone reached more than 7.5 million VND. From this amount, the school's Youth Union has carried out many meaningful tasks such as: contributing 1 million VND to the "Red Scarf House" project of the Cao Loc District Youth Union; making a set of environmental protection propaganda posters worth 780 thousand VND; building a "Corner to honor Good People and Good Deeds" worth 850 thousand VND; giving a total of 60 Tet gifts worth 6 million VND to disadvantaged team members (20 gifts/year). In addition, two team members with special circumstances were also given handheld computers (worth 500 thousand VND/unit) to support their studies...
Sharing about the model implementation, Ms. Vu Thi Thuong, Head of the School's Team, emphasized: We do not impose or assign targets but focus on giving autonomy to the teams. When students are able to plan, manage and decide on how to use the fund, they feel trusted, and thus become more proactive, committed and responsible.
Mr. Pham Le Minh, Deputy Secretary of the District Youth Union, Chairman of the Cao Loc District Youth Union Council, assessed: The model "Small plan to light up dreams" at the Cao Loc District Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High School is not only effective in building the Youth Union fund but also contributes to educating members about practicing thrift, solidarity and responsibility. This is a model with a creative approach, suitable for boarding conditions and the characteristics of ethnic minority students, very typical in the whole district.
Thanks to its methodical, creative and practical approach, in the 2023-2024 school year, the Cao Loc District Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High School Union was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Central Council of the Youth Union, recognized as one of 65 unions with typical "Small Plan" models nationwide.
