Despicable Me 4 - the 6th film in the Despicable Me series (including 4 main films and 2 spin-offs) - is the film holding the No. 1 position in ticket sales for the second consecutive week, bringing the total global revenue to over 441 million USD, including 210.45 million USD in North America and 230.7 million USD in 78 international markets. The film cost only 100 million USD to produce, bringing huge profits to Illumination and Universal Pictures. This success prompted Universal Pictures to set the release date for the spin-off Minions 3 on June 30, 2027.
The adorable Minions in the blockbuster Despicable Me 4
Gru, Minion and Gru Jr. characters in the movie
14 years have passed since the first Despicable Me movie hit theaters, and the Minions story continues to captivate audiences around the world, especially children. The only thing that has changed in Gru's world in the sixth installment is the introduction of a child - Gru Jr., who looks exactly like his father: hooked nose, shifty eyes, low forehead, just a little more hair. The addition of a biological son to a family of three adopted daughters (not to mention an army of uncontrollable Minions) is the main plot of Despicable Me 4 against the villain Maxime Le Mal.
Director Chris Renaud created laughter and unexpected details but lacked emotion, so many viewers thought the script was not up to par. However, this 6th part still retains the humorous and fun style, especially the dialogue and details revolving around the Minions - which has become the "weapon" of this series since the first part was released in 2010.
As of July 15, Despicable Me 4 has earned more than 95 billion VND since its premiere in Vietnam on July 5 and is expected to surpass the 100 billion VND mark in a summer with many good animated films being released.
