Member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thi Xuan Huong visits a policy family
Spread the meaning of gratitude
War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27, carries profound historical, political and social significance, and is a beautiful symbol of the Vietnamese people's tradition of "remembering the source of water we drink".
Immediately after the success of the August Revolution in 1945, when the French colonialists returned to invade, tens of thousands of compatriots and soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives and blood for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Deeply understanding those great losses and sacrifices, the Party, the Government, President Ho Chi Minh and the People devoted all their love to the country's outstanding children.
As early as 1946, the Association for Supporting Victims of War was established, calling on the entire population to support and help the soldiers. In particular, the "Winter for Soldiers" campaign initiated by President Ho Chi Minh received a strong response, demonstrating the compassion of the entire population for the soldiers. President Ho Chi Minh even took off the sweater he was wearing to give to the soldiers, a touching gesture.
On February 16, 1947, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 20/SL "Regulations on pension, disability and death benefits for war invalids", marking the first legal document affirming the important position of work for war invalids and martyrs.
In June 1947, in Dai Tu (Bac Thai), delegates unanimously chose July 27 as “National War Invalids Day”. From July 1955, this day was officially renamed “War Invalids and Martyrs Day” to acknowledge the great sacrifices of compatriots and soldiers nationwide.
After the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, Directive 223/CT-TW dated July 8, 1975 of the Central Party Secretariat officially made July 27 every year the "Day of War Invalids and Martyrs" of the whole country.
July 27 is not only an occasion to remember, but also an affirmation that caring for wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, martyrs' families and people with meritorious services is an honor and a sacred responsibility of the whole society.
This is an opportunity to educate about revolutionary traditions, foster patriotism and strengthen faith in the revolutionary cause that the Party and Uncle Ho have chosen.
Tay Ninh strives in the work of gratitude
Member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thi Xuan Huong visits a policy family
In recent years, along with the socio-economic development, Tay Ninh province has always paid special attention to and cared for the lives of families of war invalids, martyrs, and people with meritorious services, and promoted the "Repaying gratitude" movement with many practical activities. Thanks to that, the lives of families of people with meritorious services have been constantly improved, contributing to maintaining political and social stability, and strengthening people's trust in the Party and the State.
Currently, Tay Ninh has more than 143,000 people recognized and receiving preferential treatment for those who have contributed to the revolution. Among them, there are 6,850 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 103 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, 14,200 wounded and sick soldiers, nearly 42,000 martyrs and their relatives, and 2,885 resistance fighters exposed to toxic chemicals.
Since the beginning of 2024, the province has confirmed and recognized preferential policies for 281 cases, basically no more backlogs. More than 20,800 subjects are receiving regular subsidies with a total amount of 58.2 billion VND/month.
In addition to fully implementing policies according to regulations, Tay Ninh also actively mobilizes social resources to support gratitude houses (building 171 new houses, repairing 466 houses) and the Gratitude Fund of nearly 19 billion VND.
In particular, 100% of the surviving Vietnamese Heroic Mothers are cared for monthly. Visits and gift-giving activities on holidays and Tet with a total amount of more than 176.8 billion VND have contributed to helping families of meritorious people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. To date, 100% of policy households in Tay Ninh have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average standard of living of people in the same place of residence.
Towards the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), in recent days, Tay Ninh province has organized many meaningful gratitude activities such as organizing delegations of provincial leaders to visit and present gifts to 590 policy families; organizing delegations to visit seriously wounded soldiers at nursing centers; bringing outstanding meritorious people to attend the National Commemoration Ceremony in Hanoi; organizing visits to martyrs' cemeteries; Memorial and burial ceremonies for 328 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia. In particular, the search and collection of martyrs' remains has always been identified as a sacred task.
Through 24 stages, Tay Ninh's collection teams have found 8,627 sets of martyrs' remains, of which 282 have known names and addresses. Each memorial service and each repatriation of martyrs' remains is a reminder to today's generation of the sacrifices made for independence and peace.
Practical action
To continue promoting the achieved results and strengthening the work of caring for people with revolutionary contributions in the current period, requires the cooperation and consensus of the whole society.
The 13th National Congress of the Party affirmed: "Implementing social policies well, ensuring social security and welfare, human security, creating strong changes in social development management, realizing social progress and justice, improving the quality of life and happiness of the people,...".
In response to that request, Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations are continuing to disseminate more widely the Party and State's policies and guidelines for war invalids, sick soldiers, families of martyrs and people with meritorious services. Raising awareness that the good implementation of preferential policies is not only a sacred sentiment and a noble responsibility of the entire political system and the entire population, but also a factor ensuring social progress and justice, deeply demonstrating the superiority of our regime. From there, turning awareness into practical, concrete and positive actions contributes to the good implementation of preferential policies for people with meritorious services, making the movements "Repaying gratitude", "All people take care of families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution" become regular activities in all aspects of social life.
Pay special attention to families in difficult circumstances, meritorious people living alone, without support, families in remote areas, former revolutionary bases, and strive to prevent meritorious people from being classified as poor households.
Along with that, continue to do a good job of renovating and embellishing martyrs' cemeteries and works honoring martyrs; promote the search, identification and collection of martyrs' remains. Continue to propagate and educate cadres, party members, civil servants, public employees, union members, association members and people of all walks of life to actively and responsibly participate in the work of people with meritorious services and the movement "All people take care of families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution", support the "Repaying gratitude" fund. Honor and commend the examples of war invalids, sick soldiers, families of martyrs and people with meritorious services who have promoted the spirit of self-reliance, self-strengthening, overcoming difficulties, actively working, producing, and participating in patriotic emulation movements.
July is not only a time for remembrance, but also a strong reminder of the responsibility to preserve historical values through concrete actions. Gratitude activities need to become a consistent source throughout the country's development journey.
Gratitude with all our heart – that is not just a slogan, but a commitment, a deep affection, a concrete expression of the continuation of precious traditions through generations. Thereby, contributing to the cultivation of national ethics, building trust, fostering patriotism and the will and aspiration to rise up for future generations./.
