From January 31 (the third day of Tet), tourists began to flock to Ha Giang , causing traffic jams in many places such as Tham Ma slope, Bac Sum slope or Ma Pi Leng pass. In Dong Van area, there was a situation of "no room" available, guests who did not book in advance had to go far from the center to find a place to sleep. Many houses with vacant rooms were also used to welcome guests.

Duc Manh, who lives in Hai Phong , and a group of 10 friends traveled to Ha Giang on the second day of Tet and had no difficulty finding a room or getting around. However, when they arrived in Meo Vac at 7pm on the third day of Tet, the group struggled to knock on the doors of more than 10 hotels and motels but were told they were all fully booked. Some places still had vacant communal stilt-house rooms, priced at VND250,000 per person, which lacked privacy so the group did not rent. After about two hours, they found a local who agreed to let them stay for VND100,000 per person.

"I don't think fire prevention is that bad," he said.

Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hue, owner of Lam Tung Hotel in Dong Van, said that the three establishments with a total of 45 rooms are fully booked until the end of next week. On the third day of Tet, the hotel's phone rang continuously but it could not accept any more guests because it was full early. Ms. Hue also helped a group of guests who did not have a room until after 8 p.m. to stay in a house of a resident who had returned to their hometown for Tet.

According to Ms. Hue, hotel owners in Dong Van always support tourists, but the number of people coming in on the third day of Tet was "really too large". The restaurant owned by Ms. Hue, which can accommodate 130 guests at a time, was also fully booked twice last night.

In Meo Vac, a representative of Hoa Cuong Hotel said that the hotel was fully booked on the 3rd, and the number of guests gradually decreased on the 4th because the district mainly welcomed backpackers and few group guests. Yesterday, the hotel also received many calls from groups in Dong Van who could not find rooms.

Tour guide Khuc Quang Sang of Viet Travel Company also said he saw many individual and family travelers arriving but struggling to find rooms. Most hotels in Dong Van reported full rooms until the 6th day of Tet. Tour companies had enough rooms because they had booked in advance.

This morning, Sang's group visited Ma Pi Leng and cruised on Nho Que River. The weather in Ha Giang on the 4th day of Tet was sunny and beautiful, suitable for tourism, in contrast to the thick fog on the 3rd day. He said the vehicles moved slowly due to prolonged traffic jams, especially the section down to Nho Que River boat dock where construction materials were still scattered on the road. On the morning route, Sang's group had to go through about 8 traffic jams, taking 30 minutes for the vehicle to pass.

"There was a traffic jam, but customers understood that demand increased during Tet, so everyone was happy to wait," he said.
