International visitors increase sharply

According to the reporter, in the first days of the new year, the main roads in Phu Quoc City are very crowded with international tourists, while domestic tourists are still sparse. There is no sign of an increase like in previous years.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - General Director of Vina Phu Quoc Tourism Company Limited said: The number of international visitors to Phu Quoc during the Lunar New Year is very large, the number of visitors is higher than before the Covid-19 epidemic. The number of domestic visitors booking tours is low, only families or small groups.

According to representatives of major hotels in Phu Quoc, the occupancy rate during the Lunar New Year this year has increased sharply compared to last year, especially the sudden increase in international visitors. Domestic guests booking rooms only account for 1/3 of the room capacity. Meanwhile, the room capacity of hotels from 3 stars and below has not shown any significant signs of increase, still mainly international guests.

Currently, Phu Quoc International Airport is receiving flights from countries and territories such as: Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Poland, USA, Mongolia... In addition, Vietjet Air opened a flight route between Phu Quoc - Taiwan, operating a frequency of 7 round trips/day, creating more opportunities for local tourism.

A representative of Phu Quoc International Airport said that during the Tet holidays, the number of flights to Phu Quoc increased compared to before. Specifically: February 9 (30th of Tet) 39 flights; February 10 (1st of Tet) 37 flights; February 11 (2nd of Tet) 39 flights; February 12 (3rd of Tet) 44 flights; February 13 (4th of Tet) 41 flights.

Mr. Ha Tuan Minh - Director of Winner Vietnam LHQT Co., Ltd. said; the number of international visitors to Phu Quoc during Tet increased dramatically, many flights from other countries arrived in Phu Quoc to welcome the first day of the new year, creating a new turning point for tourism on the Pearl Island.

Sharing with reporters, a tourist from Russia said that this was the first time celebrating Tet in Phu Quoc, the atmosphere on New Year's Eve was very impressive, especially the fireworks display to welcome the new year, wishing all Vietnamese people in general and Phu Quoc in particular a prosperous new year. Mr. HUANG/YU-CHEN, a tourist from Taiwan on the morning of the first day of Tet, said that our family chose Phu Quoc as a tourist destination for the New Year because the weather here is very good for relaxation, the scenery is beautiful, the air is fresh, and everyone in our family likes it.

Previously, on February 9 (ie 30th of Tet), Phu Quoc welcomed the Aida Bella cruise ship docking at the port, bringing 1,979 European tourists to the Pearl Island on New Year's Eve, more than 90% of whom were German tourists. On February 2, the Costa Serena ship departing from Laem Chabang (Thailand) docked at Duong Dong port, bringing 1,083 tourists to visit the Pearl Island.
