Western tourists are "shocked" when buying ornamental plants at the spring flower market in Ho Chi Minh City.

All kinds of flowers reminiscent of the traditional Vietnamese New Year such as bougainvillea, marigolds, etc. are sold by vendors with many colors, sizes, and prices for customers to choose from.

Here, Mrs. Emily's family (American nationality) was captivated by the eye-catching bonsai display. Traveling to Ho Chi Minh City with her husband, staying in Ho Chi Minh City for only 2 weeks, and coinciding with Tet here, Mrs. Emily said: "The flowers here are all very beautiful and brilliant, but we were attracted by these potted plants with all kinds of special shapes."

Both have a passion for bonsai.

"We have also had the opportunity to see and learn about bonsai in other countries, but the beauty of Vietnamese bonsai is very special. Not too ornate or elaborate, Vietnamese bonsai is most beautiful in the expression of the natural growth of the plants, close to nature, the place where they were born. And maybe there are still profound meanings that we do not fully understand," Emily's husband shared.

After trying to communicate, the couple was shocked when the potted plant they liked cost only 600,000 Vietnamese Dong (about 23 USD). "We were very surprised because the potted plant was beautiful but so cheap. We were really happy and surprised," said Emily.

The foreign son-in-law was curious and excited to celebrate Tet in Vietnam for the first time.
