Southeast Asian fans' reactions when Vietnam team won the rematch against Nepal

(Dan Tri) - Southeast Asian fans believe that the Vietnamese team's performance was not really convincing when they defeated Nepal thanks to an own goal in the match at Thong Nhat Stadium.

"I thought the Vietnamese team must be very strong, but why did they only win by one goal against Nepal, and it was an own goal?", Ahmad Fadlan from Indonesia expressed on the Asean Football website after witnessing the Vietnamese team narrowly win against Nepal with a score of 1-0 in the 4th match of Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at Thong Nhat Stadium (HCMC) on the evening of October 14.

Before the match, it suddenly rained heavily, causing the match to be postponed for 30 minutes. When the two teams entered the match, the Thong Nhat Stadium still had many large puddles, hindering the play of both teams.

However, in the 5th minute, the Vietnamese team scored the opening goal. From a corner kick, center back Hieu Minh headed the ball into Suman Shrestha's own net, helping the Vietnamese team take a 1-0 lead.

The early goal helped coach Kim Sang Sik’s players relieve pressure and show off their style of play, but the slippery and wet pitch made it difficult for Vietnam to find scoring opportunities.

Not only that, luck was not on the Vietnamese team's side as the goalposts denied three shots from the players in the remaining time.

In the end, the Vietnamese team won 1-0 against Nepal and temporarily ranked 2nd when the match at the same time between the Malaysian team and Laos had a 5-1 victory in favor of the "Malayan Tigers" (Malaysia is still 3 points ahead of the Vietnamese team after 4 matches).

"This match shows that Vietnam and Nepal are on equal footing, but the luckier team won," commented Jamail Jimin from Malaysia.

"The Thong Nhat Stadium surface was so bad that it was also the reason why Nepal scored an own goal. To be fair, Vietnam did not play very well in this match. Perhaps coach Kim Sang Sik wanted to experiment with the lineup so he did not use his strongest lineup," commented David Tan from the Philippines.

"Without the early own goal, Nepal could have drawn with Vietnam in this match. However, this result is not too bad when Nepal is considered weaker," said Cleopatra D'Chee from Singapore.

"Nepal could have had a better result. But the pitch was not good, so the Vietnamese team did not play as expected. They were also a bit unlucky when the goalposts unfortunately denied many goals," Surapon Prakin, a Thai account, affirmed.

"The Vietnamese team was quite unlucky when the ball hit the post and crossbar too many times. But the most important thing is still the victory. Let's continue to fight to win a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup," Nguyen Van Minh concluded.
