WinCommerce sets record revenue, surpassing 10,000 billion VND in the third quarter

Vietnam's retail market: From recovery to growth breakthrough

After nearly a decade of strong transformation, the Vietnamese retail market is entering its highest growth period since the pandemic. In 2024-2025, consumption trends have clearly recovered, led by improved incomes, an expanding middle class and the spread of modern retail models to rural areas.

According to the latest report by Insight Asia, the size of Vietnam's retail market reached about 309.7 billion USD, in which the modern retail channel (Modern Trade - MT) accounted for 27% of total retail revenue, a sharp increase compared to 15% in 2005.

MT channel is forecast to reach 35% by 2030, corresponding to a compound growth rate of about 12%/year, the fastest in the ASEAN region. This growth is driven by logistics infrastructure, digital payments and trade openness, contributing to making Vietnam one of the most dynamic consumer markets in Asia.

At the same time, domestic consumer purchasing power is recovering strongly. According to data from the General Statistics Office, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first 9 months of 2025 are estimated to reach more than 5 million billion VND, up 9.5% over the same period last year.

In September alone, the increase reached 11.3%, the highest since the beginning of the year. Essential goods groups grew well, such as food (up 13.8%), garment (up 15.2%), and catering services (up 15%), reflecting a clear recovery of domestic consumption.

In the context of strong recovery of consumer demand, especially from September, the beginning of the year-end shopping season, domestic retail businesses such as WinCommerce (WCM) are taking advantage of the opportunity to accelerate.

Domestic enterprises lead the wave of retail modernization

On the basis of a strong recovery in domestic consumption, WinCommerce, a member of Masan Group (MSN), recorded third-quarter revenue exceeding VND10,000 billion, the highest level since its establishment. This result reflects the effectiveness of its sustainable development strategy, anticipating modern consumption trends and optimizing operations based on technology.

Accumulated in the first 9 months of the year, WinCommerce's revenue reached VND 28,500 billion, an increase of 16.6% over the same period in 2024, far exceeding the basic growth scenario that the business set for this year (8-12%).

By the end of September, WinCommerce had opened 464 new stores, of which nearly 75% were WinMart+ in rural areas. The Central region alone contributed 227 stores, accounting for half of the total new openings in the year. All stores opened since the beginning of the year have achieved positive profits.

WinMart’s increasingly widespread presence is helping to reshape Vietnamese consumer habits, especially in rural areas. People are getting used to shopping in clean, convenient spaces; choosing products with clear origins and transparent prices.

With nearly 4,300 stores and a record high rate of profitable stores, the company is expected to maintain double-digit growth in the fourth quarter, which accounts for a large proportion of the industry's revenue.

Despite the positive business results, WinCommerce is still facing some structural challenges in the Vietnamese retail market. The pressure of space, logistics and human resources costs remains high, especially in large urban areas.

In rural areas, although there is still room for growth, the transition to a modern retail model still takes time. Therefore, WinCommerce needs to maintain a selective expansion strategy, balancing speed and efficiency, while investing in technology, data and supply chain to ensure sustainable growth.

Current challenges are also catalysts to help businesses strengthen their competitiveness and make a breakthrough in the peak shopping season at the end of 2025.
