Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee emphasized: "The event of Plum and Safe Agricultural Products Week in Son La province and other provinces and cities in 2023, held during the historic May days, is the most concrete demonstration of the coordination between the Vietnam Farmers' Association, Hanoi City, Central Retail Vietnam Group, Big C Thang Long Trade Center with Son La province. We consider this an important event, a good opportunity to bring the province's agricultural products and safe food to the capital market and other provinces, thereby connecting with domestic and export markets; creating breakthroughs in production organization, improving product quality, building brands, promoting agricultural product consumption, improving people's income and life".
According to the leaders of Son La province, in order to carry out the task of developing rural agriculture in 2023, Son La province focuses on drastically restructuring the industry towards increasing added value and sustainable development associated with growth model innovation; striving for the total output of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the province to increase by 5% compared to 2022. High-tech agriculture and organic agriculture continue to be developed on a large scale, widely applying mechanization in production. There are currently nearly 85 thousand hectares of fruit trees, the fruit output in 2023 is estimated at 452 thousand tons; 281 growing area codes have been granted with a total area of 4,600 hectares for export to markets such as Australia, New Zealand, the US, China, the EU and some other markets. There are 24 agricultural products granted protection certificates. The whole province currently has 110 OCOP products; Recognized 04 high-tech agricultural zones.
In 2023, the expected quantity of exported fruit products will reach over 18,700 tons, with some main fruit products such as: 8,000 tons of mango; 4,500 tons of longan; nearly 4,500 tons of banana, 1,000 tons of passion fruit...; the value of agricultural products and food products exported by Son La province in the first quarter of 2023 is estimated at 54.38 million USD. The quantity of fruit for processing in factories and processing facilities in the province is estimated at about 70 thousand tons, the rest is for domestic consumption.
Also at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Communications Director of Central Retail Group, said: Currently, at Central Retail's food retail system (GO!, Big C, Tops Market), Son La province's products are very popular with customers, because: Good product quality, ensuring food safety certification standards, VietGAP, GolbalGAP, Organic... are highly appreciated by consumers. This is demonstrated through 60 agricultural products of Son La province that are regularly sold on the shelves of the system of 18 supermarkets GO!, Big C, Tops Market in the Northern region.
In 2022, the output of Son La agricultural products at Central Retail supermarkets achieved a 20-fold growth rate, with some items such as Cabbage even growing 80 times.

Son La plums have an area of 12,353 hectares, with an output of about 89,837 tons in 2023, and a harvest season from April to July. The "Son La Plum" brand has been granted a Trademark Registration Certificate by the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Science and Technology since 2021. Some high-quality plum products of Son La: Pu Nhi plums (Song Ma district), Ruby plums (Na Cang, Moc Chau district), Phieng Khoai plums (Yen Chau district).
Exploiting the potential advantages of the locality in terms of soil, climate, abundant labor resources, etc., Son La province has focused on leading and directing the promotion of agricultural development towards commodity production, applying high technology, improving product quality and value associated with promoting the processing industry, promoting trade, and connecting product consumption according to the value chain.
Son La has become the largest fruit granary in the North with the total area of fruit trees of all kinds in 2023 estimated at 84,784 hectares (up 2.14% compared to 2022), the expected fruit harvest output is 451,779 tons (up 28% compared to 2022).
The area of crops applying good agricultural production processes and ensuring equivalent standards is estimated at 5,917 hectares; the area of coffee applying 4C, UTZ: 16,542.9 hectares. The output of production applying VietGAP or other GAP: 3,098 tons/year. The output of honey produced applying VietGAP or other GAP: 364 liters/year. The total area of organic production and organic orientation: 8,217 hectares.
The province has been granted 281 growing area codes with a total area of 4,608.45 hectares of fruit trees and 34 packaging facilities for export; the output meets export standards of 46,000 tons of various fruits for the markets of Australia, New Zealand, the US, China, the EU.../.
