The western region of Quang Ngai province is considered to have favorable conditions for solar power development due to relatively high solar radiation and ample land. Several large-scale solar power projects have been approved for investment and are currently being implemented, including the Ia Toi DT Solar Power Plant Project in Ia Toi commune with a capacity of 140 MW.
Besides large-scale projects, rooftop solar power is also developing strongly in the province. By May 2026, the entire province had more than 3,100 organizations and individuals installing rooftop solar power systems with a total capacity of over 366 MWp. Many businesses in the Dung Quat Economic Zone and other industrial parks have invested in solar power systems to serve production, contributing to reducing pressure on the national power grid.
However, the development of solar power still faces difficulties due to limitations in capacity quotas and inadequate power transmission infrastructure to meet connection needs. Quang Ngai province is requesting the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consider supplementing the solar power capacity quota and investing in a synchronized power grid and substation system to receive renewable energy sources.
Quang Ngai province has identified the development of solar power as one of the important directions in exploiting the potential of renewable energy, especially in border areas, economic zones, and industrial parks, contributing to creating momentum for economic development and efficient use of natural resources.
