The provincial People's Committee also sent a document requesting the Aquaculture Research Institute III to assist Phu Yen province in determining the cause of the sudden death of caged fish and shrimp on June 22 in Xuan Canh commune (Song Cau town); and to recommend and support solutions to handle the above situation.
Previously, on June 26, Phu Yen Newspaper published an article "Lobsters and farmed fish continue to die en masse in Song Cau" reflecting that from the night of June 21-24, lobsters and marine fish raised in cages and rafts in Xuan Canh commune, Cu Mong lagoon (Song Cau town) continued to die in large numbers. Initial statistics showed that 88 farming households suffered losses, the number of dead shrimp and fish was about 1.7 tons of lobster meat; 6,000 baby lobsters from 1-2 months old; nearly 45 tons of various types of fish and about 6,000 baby fish from 1-2 months old... estimated losses of more than 7.3 billion VND.
The initial cause was determined to be overcrowding, polluted environment, and unusual rainy and sunny weather causing local oxygen deficiency in the farming area. Recently, the Veterinary Department of Region IV responded to the test results of 2 dead fish samples taken by the Phu Yen Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department in the farming area in Xuan Canh commune. Accordingly, the results did not detect the agent causing necrosis disease (VNN) in the tested fish samples.
