Inauguration of a memorial stele about President Ho Chi Minh's visit in Chrastava, Czech Republic

Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam emphasized that the inauguration ceremony of the memorial stele has a very special meaning because it takes place on the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday.

On May 19, in the atmosphere of celebrating the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Czech diplomatic relations, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam and Senator and Mayor of Chrastava city, Mr. Michael Canov, co-chaired the inauguration ceremony of the memorial stele of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to this city on July 20, 1957.

Attending the ceremony were the leaders of Chrastava city, representatives of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic, representatives of Vietnamese Associations in many localities, and the government and people of Chrastava city.

Nearly 70 years ago, during a working visit to Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic), a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Party and State led by President Ho Chi Minh visited the city of Chrastava and met and encouraged 100 Vietnamese cadets studying there during the period 1956-1959. This event was a historical milestone, affirming the close relationship and traditional friendship between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam expressed his deepest gratitude to the leadership, people of Chrastava city and personally Mayor Michael Canov for their affection and love for the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people.

The Ambassador expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the enthusiastic support of the city government for the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic in their efforts to fulfill their wish to record the historical mark of President Ho Chi Minh's State visit to Czechoslovakia (July 19-22, 1957).

Emphasizing that the inauguration ceremony of the memorial stele has a very special meaning because it takes place on the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the first year of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam said that the ceremony marks a memorable historical milestone for the close, trusting and united relationship between the people of the two countries.

“The inauguration of the memorial stele today has shown the affection not only of the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy but also of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic and the local people for beloved President Ho Chi Minh. I believe that from today, this place will become a new cultural destination, of historical significance for Vietnamese people studying, living and working in the Czech Republic, so that every time they visit this place, they will remember Uncle Ho, their homeland and their roots,” said Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam.

Speaking at the event, Mayor of Chrastava City, Mr. Michael Canov, expressed his joy that the memorial stele of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Chrastava was officially completed and inaugurated on his birthday. He emphasized the historical significance of the visit, especially President Ho Chi Minh’s care for Vietnamese cadets studying there.

On this occasion, Mayor Michael Canov expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese Embassy, the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic for their support during the 2010 flood, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and attachment between the two peoples.

Thanks to the efforts of the Vietnamese Embassy, Vietnamese associations in the Czech Republic and the active support of the local government, a red address marking the historic visit of President Ho Chi Minh has been formed. The project not only contributes to fostering the Vietnam-Czech friendship, but is also a source of pride for the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic and a destination for local people and international friends to learn more about the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people.
