Inauguration of the project to restore and embellish the memorial site of female general Nguyen Thi Dinh

On the morning of January 16, Ben Tre province held an inauguration ceremony for the restoration and embellishment of the memorial site of female general Nguyen Thi Dinh in Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district. This is one of the activities to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Ben Tre province's founding and the 65th anniversary of Ben Tre Dong Khoi Day.

The project to restore and embellish the Memorial Site of General Nguyen Thi Dinh began in September last year and has now been completed. The project includes the following main items: renovating the Temple; renovating the Reception House, Stele House, Exhibition House, fence gate, coconut house; repairing the current toilet; installing an outdoor lighting system; renovating the entire yard, flower beds, drainage system; renovating the Office of General Nguyen Thi Dinh. The total investment is more than 12 billion VND, supported and directly organized by DonaCoop Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company.

Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh was born on March 15, 1920 in Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province. At the age of 16, she left her family to join the revolution and held many different positions. In mid-1961, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh was transferred to work at the Southern Command. In 1965, she was promoted to the rank of Major General of the Vietnam People's Army and was assigned to the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Vietnam Liberation Army until 1975. After the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, she was assigned by the Party and State to hold many important positions: Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; President of the Vietnam Women's Union; Vice President of the State Council; National Assembly Delegate for many terms.

Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh is the first female general of the Vietnam People's Army, a Hero of the People's Armed Forces, an outstanding daughter of her homeland Ben Tre Dong Khoi. She has become a legend, not only representing the women of the Southern land of steel and bronze "Heroic - Indomitable - Loyal - Responsible", but also an exemplary model for Vietnamese women.
