NDO - On June 30, the Saint Petersburg city government (Russia) coordinated with the Vietnamese side to solemnly organize the inauguration ceremony of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh , on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's first visit to Petrograd , now Saint Petersburg (June 30, 1923 - June 30, 2023).

Attending the ceremony on the Russian side were Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council (Senate) of Russia Andrey Yatskin, leaders of the Saint Petersburg Foreign Affairs Committee and relevant agencies.
On the Vietnamese side, there were comrade Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and many delegations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, the Central Party Office Archives, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Management Board, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association, and the Association of Vietnamese in Russia.
At the intersection of the street named “Ho Chi Minh” and the “Enlightenment” avenue, in a space filled with flags and flowers, witnessed by many people from both countries, the red cloth with a five-pointed yellow star covering the statue of Uncle Ho was pulled down, officially inaugurating the fifth statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Russia. The statue of Uncle Ho is 3m high, the pedestal is 1.5m high, facing east, towards Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov emphasized that exactly 100 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh set foot in the city of Petrograd, now Saint Petersburg, on his journey to find a way to save the country and liberate the Vietnamese people.
He had a wish that Vietnam would gain independence, that the Vietnamese people would have enough food, warm clothes, and that children could go to school. Together with the heroic Vietnamese people, he did everything to make that wish come true.
According to the Governor of Saint Petersburg, President Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation for the traditional Russia-Vietnam relationship, and generations of people of the two countries continue to strengthen and develop this valuable traditional friendship.
Moved to attend the solemn inauguration ceremony of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen expressed his gratitude to the leaders and people of Russia for their affection and love for the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people.
Comrade Nguyen Van Nen emphasized that the Vietnamese people consider the Russian side's decision to erect a statue of President Ho Chi Minh to have profound political and humanistic significance; at the same time, they believe that the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Saint Petersburg will become a new cultural destination for the people of the two countries, reminding generations to make more efforts to foster the Vietnam-Russia friendship.

The Ambassador emphasized that the statue of President Ho Chi Minh, the museum corner about President Ho Chi Minh at the nearby 488 school, along with the street named "Ho Chi Minh" and the "Enlightenment" avenue will collectively create a new symbol for the Vietnam-Russia friendship.

On this occasion, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen participated in the artillery firing ceremony at Petropavlovsk Fortress, celebrated the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's first visit to Petrograd and congratulated the successful inauguration of Uncle Ho's statue in Saint Petersburg.
