According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Nguyen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative, water spinach is harvested twice a year during the rainy season and once a month during the dry season, with a yield of about 2 tons/ha/month, and a selling price ranging from 17,000 to 25,000 VND/kg. For freshwater fish, the yield reaches about 50 kg/ha/month, with an average selling price of 85,000 VND/kg, resulting in a profit of about 12.75 million VND/ha/year. Total income from water spinach and freshwater fish reaches about 55 million VND/ha/month, with a profit of about 30 million VND/ha/month.
Farmers harvest water spinach at An Hoa Cooperative, the main product that generates the primary source of income.
However, the cooperative still faces difficulties due to the lack of a stable distribution chain, dependence on traders, fluctuating prices, and limited infrastructure for preservation and processing.
Through field surveys, the delegation highly appreciated the cooperative's production model, and concluded that the model of growing water spinach combined with raising freshwater fish is suitable for the local natural conditions, brings economic efficiency, and has the potential for sustainable development. The delegation also suggested that maintaining production, strengthening linkages, and gradually perfecting the consumption chain are necessary directions, contributing to local economic development and increasing people's income.
