One of the most obvious marks in the research and application of science and technology in Lao Cai is the transformation of the agricultural sector. From traditional and backward agriculture , farmers have now accessed and widely applied technical advances.

In Tran Yen commune - known as the largest mulberry orchard in Lao Cai province and the entire Northern region with a total area of over 700 hectares, a concentrated production area has been formed associated with value chains. In particular, the province has implemented the project "Application of comprehensive scientific and technical advances in intensive mulberry cultivation and silkworm breeding in Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province (old)" for 3 households in the commune with 5 sliding trays.
This is a modern, industrial silkworm farming method, applied to increase productivity, reduce labor and control the farming environment better than the traditional farming method on the floor or on bamboo trays. Up to now, 104 households have invested in 157 sliding trays to serve silkworm farming, bringing high productivity and efficiency.

Mr. Do Minh Huan, Chairman of Tran Yen Commune People's Committee said: "After applying silkworm farming on sliding trays, silkworm cocoon production doubled. Along with that, due to the clean and airy farming environment, silkworms are less susceptible to diseases, grow healthily, and mature evenly, so they produce white cocoons, with better quality than those raised on the floor or on trays. This helps to increase the commercial value of cocoons."
To develop modern agriculture and increase its value, the province has selected and introduced many high-yield, good-quality, pest-resistant crop and livestock varieties into mass production, such as specialty rice varieties Seng Cu and sticky rice Tham Duong; temperate fruit trees such as plums, pears, and peaches; vegetables and typical livestock varieties such as native pigs and cold-water fish.
Many high-tech agricultural models, smart agricultural models, drip irrigation technology, greenhouses, and net houses have been effectively deployed in the communes and wards of Sa Pa, Bac Ha, Bao Thang, Mu Cang Chai, Van Chan, etc., helping to optimize production, improve product quality, and minimize the impact of weather.

In addition, many specialized areas for concentrated commodity production have been formed, linked to value chains from production, processing to consumption, bringing stable and higher income to the people. Specialties such as Muong Khuong tangerines, Bao Thang pineapples, Cao Son Oolong tea, Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Bac Ha plums, Dai Minh grapefruit, Bat Do bamboo shoots, Van Yen cinnamon... are not only famous domestically but also reaching out to the international market, thanks to the application of science and technology to improve quality and traceability.

Not only stopping at agriculture, science and technology is also an important factor promoting the development of industry, handicrafts and services in Lao Cai. New technologies in processing agricultural products, minerals, and construction materials production have been transferred, helping to improve production capacity, reduce environmental pollution and create products with higher added value.
Along with that, Lao Cai is gradually deploying technological solutions to develop smart tourism, from accommodation management applications, online booking to digital tourism information platforms, helping tourists easily access and experience services.

Mr. Giang A De, owner of Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay in Pung Luong commune, said: Currently, most tourists use the internet and smart devices to search for travel information, refer to destinations, compare and choose suitable travel services; make transactions to buy tours, book rooms, and pay online...
We have actively cooperated with travel companies, organized tours and routes to promote on social networking platforms, thereby attracting a large number of tourists to Lao Cai.
Along with the application of science and technology in agricultural and forestry production, the province also prioritizes the development and protection of intellectual property for a number of local agricultural products in the form of geographical indications, certification marks, and collective marks, which have made an important contribution to the development of agriculture and rural areas, promoting the development of production and trade activities and increasing the added value of protected agricultural products.
At the same time, it contributes to better quality management, enhancing the value of typical products, developing local agricultural product brands, promoting and enhancing the competitiveness of the province's products in the market, and improving people's lives. Up to now, there are over 150 products and services in the province that are protected and managed by intellectual property.
To create a premise for sustainable development, Lao Cai has also focused on investing in scientific research and improving the capacity to apply science and technology. Along with that, it actively cooperates with major research institutes and universities in the country to transfer technology, train high-quality science and technology human resources, organize scientific seminars and forums. The province also pays special attention to training and fostering a team of science and technology staff, encouraging initiatives and technical innovation solutions in all areas of life.

With steady and decisive steps, science and technology are truly becoming one of the important pillars, opening a new era of development for Lao Cai. From majestic terraced fields to modern industrial zones, science and technology are present, helping Lao Cai to grow strongly, worthy of being a dynamically developing border province of Vietnam.
