Construction of 5 road tunnels on the North-South Expressway started on August 19

(Chinhphu.vn) - The Minister of Construction has just issued an official dispatch directing project management boards to speed up the investment progress to complete road tunnels on the Eastern North-South Expressway.

The dispatch stated that, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Construction has agreed to complete the investment in 6 road tunnels on the North-South Expressway in the East in the period of 2021 - 2025. The Ministry also agreed to propose using the increased State budget revenue in 2024 to complete the investment in 3 tunnels: Than Vu, Cu Mong, Nui Vung in the period of 2017 - 2020.

However, in recent times, project investors/management boards have been slow in implementing the project, failing to meet requirements.

The Minister of Construction requested that for the 3 tunnels: Than Vu, Cu Mong, Nui Vung, the project management boards: 6, 85 closely coordinate with the Ministry's functional agencies to complete the appraisal and approval of investment policies in July 2025, start construction in 2025 and make a detailed implementation plan to ensure completion and put into operation in 2026.

For tunnel projects: Deo But of the Vung Ang - Bung section project; Tunnels 1, 2, 3 of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section project; Tuy An Tunnel of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong section project, project management boards: 2, 6, 7 are assigned to complete procedures to approve investment project adjustments of related component projects in July 2025.

"Under the authority of the project investor, the project management boards urgently complete related procedures, based on regulations and signed contract terms... to consider and decide on contractors to implement, ensuring the commencement of construction on August 19, 2025 for the Deo But tunnel; one of the 3 tunnels (No. 1, 2, 3) on the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway and the Tuy An tunnel. The project management boards make detailed plans for implementation, striving to complete and put into operation the Deo But tunnels, No. 1, No. 2 Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon and Tuy An in the second quarter of 2026. Particularly, tunnel No. 3, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section will be completed in the third quarter of 2026", the Minister directed.

According to the project management board, the investment cost to complete the Deo But tunnel is about 265 billion VND. For the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section, the investment cost to complete the 3 tunnels is about 1,400 billion VND. At the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway, the investment cost to complete the Tuy An tunnel is about 225 billion VND.
