Thua Thien Hue : Groundbreaking ceremony of Vsico Port project in Chan May - Lang Co
On April 6, 2024, at Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province, Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Vsico Chan May Port project (berths 4 and 5).
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , leaders of ministries, central agencies; leaders of Thua Thien Hue province and other provinces.
The Investment Project to build general - container terminals No. 4 and No. 5 of Vsico Chan May Port was approved in principle by the Management Board of Thua Thien Hue Economic and Industrial Zones in Decision No. 161/QD-KKTCN dated October 6, 2022.
The project is invested by Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company with a total registered capital of about 1,678 billion VND; total area of 20.4 hectares; total length of 2 berths No. 4 and No. 5 is 540 m, capable of receiving cargo ships up to 70,000 tons and container ships up to 4,000 TEUS.

Vsico Chan May Port owns a closed conveyor system with a length of 1.2 km and a suction and pouring device with a capacity of exporting 2,000 tons of goods/hour and importing 1,000 tons of goods/hour at the bulk cargo terminal, helping to improve loading and unloading productivity, freeing ships, freeing up road vehicles, increasing the speed of goods circulation in the port, reducing congestion, saving transportation costs and ensuring environmental safety.
The container terminal is invested with a modern bridge system with a container loading and unloading capacity of up to 60 containers/hour. The large warehouse system is built according to high quality standards, applying advanced technologies to facilitate storage, loading and unloading, and transportation suitable for each type of goods.
Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company aims to put Terminal 4 into operation by the second quarter of 2025, and Terminal 5 into operation in early 2026; the port throughput is expected to be 5 million tons of import and export goods per year. With container ships, the port throughput is expected to be 80,000 to 100,000 TEU per year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, said that Chan May Port in Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone has an extremely important position, is a national general seaport, located at the end of the East-West Economic Corridor... It is capable of receiving large-sized goods, serving the transit of goods from Laos and Northeast Thailand...
According to Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, after more than 20 years of establishment and development, Chan May Port has exceeded its design capacity by 20% with an average annual growth rate of 25%. It is forecasted that by 2025, Chan May Port will have to deploy 5-7 wharfs with a total length of up to 1,930 m, meeting the port clearance capacity of 7.5-3.8 million tons. Therefore, the investment in wharf No. 4.5 - Vsico Chan May Port is extremely important and necessary, as a preparation step to welcome the increasing volume of goods by sea in the following years.

"Along with the completion of the 750-meter breakwater, this project will contribute to ensuring the ability to receive cargo ships, container ships, and large passenger ships in the world, increasing the operating time during the year, including the rainy season. It will create new momentum and spirit in the Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, contributing to the socio-economic development of Thua Thien Hue province," Vice Chairman Hoang Hai Minh emphasized.
Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh requested investors and contractors to focus resources, closely coordinate with departments, branches and local authorities to ensure construction progress, quality, and safety of the project's landscape and environment.
At the same time, the leaders of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Thua Thien Hue Economic and Industrial Zone Management Board to continue to closely coordinate with the investor in the implementation of the next steps, ensuring the project is completed and put into operation on schedule; assigned the local government, Phu Loc District People's Committee, departments and branches to coordinate with the investor, creating maximum conditions for the contractor to complete the construction on time.
It is known that previously, on January 30, 2024, the Management Board of Economic and Industrial Zones of Thua Thien Hue province also issued Decision No. 16/QD-KKTCN on leasing 57,433.6 m2 of land in Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province to Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company (headquartered at No. 9, Lane 84, Ngoc Khanh Street, Giang Vo Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) for the purpose of project investment and construction. The land lease term is 50 years from January 30, 2024. Land lease form: Annual land rent payment.
According to the Management Board of Thua Thien Hue Economic and Industrial Zones, on the land leased for the project, there are State public assets such as dykes and embankments belonging to the Chan May Port Main Road Project. Therefore, during the project implementation process, Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company is responsible for preserving State assets in their original state; it is not allowed to arbitrarily dismantle, impact, or relocate these assets without permission from competent authorities.
