Igniting career aspirations

With the increasing openness in the curriculum and learning content, career education is undergoing diverse transformations in both methods and content to suit the needs and age groups of students.

This will gradually awaken career aspirations in students, giving them goals and motivation to study, enabling them to gradually realize their career dreams and have the opportunity to contribute to society.

In secondary schools, in addition to the main curriculum , students participate in open educational activities both inside and outside the school. This flexible change is due to the development of career guidance education activities under the 2018 General Education Program.

Accordingly, vocational education activities are implemented according to a roadmap suitable for the age of students, starting with self -discovery (primary school), building career awareness (secondary school), and enabling them to choose a career that suits their abilities, interests, conditions, and circumstances (high school).

High school students learn about the Civil Engineering field at a career guidance activity organized by the Department of Education and Training in collaboration with universities in Buon Ma Thuot City.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy, Principal of Le Thi Hong Gam Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City), primary school students enjoy exploring the world and their living environment. Therefore, they participate in career-oriented educational activities that offer interesting experiential learning experiences, such as STEM education; visiting and experiencing scenic spots in the province; learning how to prepare simple dishes in the classroom; caring for flowerbeds and plants in the schoolyard and classrooms, etc. Through these activities, teachers will guide and stimulate students' imagination and career interests; and encourage them to study diligently to realize their career dreams.

At the lower secondary level, career guidance activities are more diverse and in-depth, such as: coordinating with high schools, vocational schools, and colleges in the province to provide information about professions, advise on admissions, guide students in choosing careers based on their abilities and career trends; career guidance through morning assemblies and extracurricular activities, etc.

At the high school level, career guidance activities become more in-depth, aiming to help students become familiar with various professions, provide career counseling, and develop professional skills based on their different abilities, interests, values, and goals, avoiding blindly following the crowd or traditional choices.

Students participate in a hands-on activity building a bamboo bridge at Le Quy Don High School (Buon Ma Thuot City).

According to the curriculum, career guidance activities gradually deepen at higher levels of education through the selection of subject combinations in grade 10 of high school. At a more mature age compared to junior high school students, they have more time to explore their own abilities; they receive support from the school in specialized career guidance methods (individual counseling, using assessment tools, interacting with experts, etc.), leading to a deeper understanding of themselves (knowing what they have and what profession they want); thereby, they can gradually build their own professional identity and choose the path that best suits them.

According to the 2019 Education Law, career guidance in education is a system of measures conducted inside and outside educational institutions to help students acquire knowledge about professions and the ability to choose a career based on a combination of individual aspirations and aptitudes with the labor market needs of society.

Mr. Vo Quoc Phong, Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem High School (Krong Pac district), said that the school always accompanies students in career guidance activities by integrating them into the main curriculum and experiential activities; inviting educational institutions (universities, colleges) to cooperate in providing admission plans and selection methods so that students have more information to choose suitable majors and schools.

Career guidance programs are organized simultaneously across all grade levels, giving students a comprehensive perspective on career paths during their three years of high school; this, along with efforts to improve academic performance and confidently participate in various exams, will help them pursue their chosen career after graduating from high school.

At Buon Ma Thuot High School (Buon Ma Thuot City), French is taught in two forms: Foreign Language 1 and Foreign Language 2 (a 3-year program from grade 10 to grade 12).

Recently, the school has collaborated with educational institutions from France to provide information on career guidance, studying abroad, and student exchange programs between Vietnam and France, both in person at the school and indirectly through personal contact.

Accordingly, in addition to studying at university after graduating from high school, students can also participate in student exchange programs while still in high school to have the opportunity to go to France to learn about French culture and global career trends.

Teachers and students from Buon Ma Thuot High School (Buon Ma Thuot City) connected with study abroad counselors following a career guidance and study abroad activity in France at the end of October 2024.

Huynh Thi To Nhu, a student in class 12A11 at Buon Ma Thuot High School, said that the study abroad and admissions counseling session for Valenciennes Polytechnic University in northern France at the end of October 2024 provided interesting information about her academic path and future experiences in France; the French education system places great emphasis on quality and personalization.

The orientation session not only provided knowledge but also served as a great source of motivation, encouraging me to dare to dream and strive harder. Although the road ahead is still full of challenges, I believe that with thorough preparation and determination, studying in France will be a memorable and meaningful journey in my life.
