On September 18th, the Kon Tum City Forest Protection Department, Kon Tum province, issued a decision to initiate a criminal case for "Destruction of Forests" that occurred in Sub-area 571 (Hoa Binh commune, Kon Tum City, forest area managed by the Plei Chor village community, Hoa Binh commune).
As reported by SGGP newspaper, during a patrol at the aforementioned location, the inter-agency force discovered that approximately 4,710 square meters of land within the forestry planning area had been dug up, excavated, and encroached upon.
Of that area, 3,850 m² is forested, comprising 3,040 m² of protective forest and 810 m² of forest designated for other purposes. This is a regenerating evergreen natural forest, under the management and protection of the Plei Chor village community ( Hoa Binh commune).
At the time of inspection, approximately 102 naturally regenerating trees had been dug up and were still lying at the site, resulting in a loss of about 5.928 cubic meters of round timber. Mr. Tran Dung Thoi (Hoa Binh commune, Kon Tum city) stated that Ms. Van Thi Hien (residing in the same commune) hired him to dig up the area for rubber tree planting.
