On the morning of March 21, the leader of Tuy Phong District People's Committee, Binh Thuan Province, said that after many hours of firefighting, by 11:00 p.m. on March 20, the fire on Lagerstroemia hill had been completely extinguished. The fire did not cause any human casualties, only burning the ground cover and dry grass, an area of about 2 hectares (not part of the forest managed by forest rangers).

At around 8:00 p.m. on March 20, a fire broke out on Bang Lang Hill (Phuoc The Commune, Tuy Phong District, Binh Thuan Province), near Tau Mountain, and quickly spread to a large area. The location of the burned hill is along National Highway 1. People living near the fire said that the fire started at the foot of Tau Mountain.
Due to the dry weather in the Tau mountain area and strong winds, the fire spread and broke out quickly in many areas.

About 80 people including police, militia, security forces of the four communes of Phuoc The, Vinh Hao, Phu Lac, Lien Huong town, forest rangers and military of Tuy Phong district participated in fighting the fire. Two fire trucks were also dispatched to the scene.

The Fire Prevention and Fighting Force has deployed to put out the fires on the mountainside, preventing the fire from spreading and affecting the power transmission lines. At the same time, the force has been divided into small groups to guide local forces to put out small fires, fires on the mountain, and to isolate and create a boundary to prevent the fire from spreading.

However, due to the rugged terrain of Tau Mountain and the darkness of the night, firefighting efforts encountered many difficulties, especially when bringing fire hoses to the top of the mountain to extinguish the fire. However, after only 5 hours, the firefighting force controlled and completely extinguished the fire.
To ensure safety and prevent re-fires, on the morning of March 21, forces continued to inspect and monitor the entire Bang Lang hill area.
