Pau FC B is being accused by many clubs in the French 5th division of violating tournament regulations for using coaches without a license. FC Portes entre-deux-Mers President Jean-Luc Veyssy said this when talking about Quang Hai's coach: "We have no grudge against Pau FC B and have no intention of teaching them a lesson. We just want all teams to follow tournament rules."
According to FFF regulations, coaches working in the French 5th division need at least a DES (a higher state coaching diploma). The current coach of Pau FC B is Benjamin Bertrand, who is only 30 years old.
He is a former goalkeeper who retired last year and has not yet completed his degree. Currently, Benjamin Bertrand is taking a DES training course but has not yet graduated. Therefore, he is not eligible to be a coach in the French 5th division.
Pau FC tried to circumvent the law by adding coach Laurent Strzelczak, who has a DES degree, to the coaching staff to replace Benjamin Bertrand. However, coach Strzelczak did not directly instruct the players on the field.
Coach Benjamin Bertrand was the one who worked directly with Quang Hai when the Vietnamese player was demoted to Pau FC B. He also gave Quang Hai a chance to play. However, the performance of the star born in 1997 was not too impressive.
If Pau B are found to have breached the rules by the FFF Regulations Committee, they will be heavily penalised. They could be docked points and fined. In another group in the French fifth division, Nice B and Nancy B were docked 6 and 3 points respectively for employing unqualified coaches.
In addition to Pau B, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine group, the clubs Libourne, Stade Montois, and Neuville all face the risk of being investigated for similar reasons.
