Sportico, a sports business tracker, has just released its latest report on the 50 highest-earning athletes of all time.
Despite the ever-evolving world of sports, the top two names on the list have remained firmly at the top for many years.
Basketball superstar Michael Jordan continues to outshine his rivals with an estimated earnings of up to $300 million in 2024, largely from his contract with Nike.
This figure brings his total career earnings since turning pro in 1984 to $3 billion, or $4.15 billion (inflation-adjusted).
Despite retiring more than 20 years ago, Michael Jordan is still the highest-paid athlete in the world, continuing a four-decade streak of off-court dominance.

The top 50 highest-earning athletes of all time come from eight different sports, with most of them retired and only 18 still active.
But like Jordan, hanging up his boots doesn't mean the end of the money for legends.
Second on the list is a name familiar not only to golfers, but to almost everyone around the world: Tiger Woods.
Like Jordan, Tiger Woods is a veteran on this list, with inflation-adjusted career earnings of $2.79 billion. While he no longer plays regularly on the PGA Tour, his investments in TGL and Sun Day Red have continued to grow.
Woods joins other golf legends in the top 10, including Arnold Palmer (No. 6 - $1.82 billion) and Jack Nicklaus (No. 7 - $1.75 billion). Other golf names on the list include Phil Mickelson (No. 11), Greg Norman (No. 15), Rory McIlroy (No. 24), Ernie Els (No. 35) and Gary Player (No. 37).

Golf occupies a total of eight spots in the top 50, with total earnings second only to basketball ($11.12 billion). Golfers benefit from careers that span decades, and remain highly sought after by brands even after they retire or are no longer at their peak.
Arnold Palmer continued to earn nearly $40 million a year from his brand until his death in 2016 at age 87. Tiger Woods has only won three tournaments since 2013 (the last in 2019), but still earns more than $60 million a year.
Sportico is a unit specializing in monitoring sports business activities. When ranking, they base their income (inflation-adjusted) on salaries, bonuses, advertising contracts, sponsorships, exploitation of personal commercial rights, tournament participation fees...
