Accordingly, on the afternoon of September 16 (local time), within the framework of attending the G77 and China Summit, and visiting and working in Cuba, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and his delegation visited the ViMariel Industrial Park, part of the Mariel Special Development Zone (Artemisia province).
ViMariel is the first and only industrial park invested by a Vietnamese enterprise in Cuba to date. ViMariel is also Cuba's first limited-term concession project for a 100% foreign-owned enterprise, with a scale of 156 hectares, less than 50 km from the capital Havana and is being developed to become the largest industrial zone of the "Island of Liberty".

Established in November 2013, the Mariel Special Development Zone is Cuba’s “star” project in attracting foreign investment. This strategic economic zone currently hosts businesses from 21 countries, notably Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Vietnam. The zone’s key sectors focus on logistics services, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical industry and advanced manufacturing.
Ms. Ana Teresa Igarza Martinez, General Director of the Mariel Development Zone, said that the Zone currently has 64 approved investment projects with a total investment of 3.3 billion USD, of which 44 projects are in operation. Vietnam is currently the second country in terms of the number of investment projects in the Mariel Development Zone. Along with existing policies, the Zone is building more attractive mechanisms for foreign investors; at the same time, there are solutions to remove difficulties in raw materials, fuel, production materials, transportation, payment, etc.
Notably, the Mariel Special Development Zone also received exchanges and support in trade and investment promotion activities from the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment .
At the meeting, the investor of ViMariel Industrial Park reported on the infrastructure construction situation, especially attracting investment projects to the industrial park; and proposed solutions to help businesses operate more smoothly.

During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the Mariel Special Development Zone is a potential economic model, a place to "incubate" and test new and unique policies before expanding them, thereby creating a stronger driving force for the Cuban economy to overcome current difficulties and challenges.
"The Mariel Development Zone plays an important role in attracting projects to produce raw materials, materials, machinery, etc. to gradually restore Cuba's important economic sectors such as agriculture, construction, etc.," the Deputy Prime Minister said, wishing the Zone to become a green economic zone with exemplary planning for trees, water, renewable energy infrastructure, transportation, logistics, accommodation for workers, and accompanying cultural and social institutions.
The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that the investor of ViMariel Industrial Park should attract capable and reputable enterprises to carry out feasible investment projects. "This is an image of the economic, investment and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
